Default Allies who wants to be onthe Tau side?

I havent checked for a similar post so sorry I was wondering what armys can ally with Tau (not kroot I class them as Tau), Like The space marines fought with them in the EOT campain but still hate them so also what reasons for and against?

[move][glow=blue,2,300]You can love it or hate it but a Rail gun is very shiny ;D[/glow][/move]

Well, the Marines are complicated by the fact that there are a thousand+ units, each with their own personalities and methods of operation. Some of them may have little trouble working with the alien, at least for a time; others (Black Templar, Dark Angels) would be diametrically opposed to such astronomical heresy. It all comes down to Chapter philosophy, and what they consider necessary at the time.

In the case of the Imperial Guard, the same things come into play, depending on the planet, the partiular IG unit's relations to aliens, the presence (and strength) of the Imperial Creed, etc. Some Imperial commanders are extraordinarily practical, using Mercenaries, allied alien forces, and such as needed and available; others are bombastic enough to think they need no aid.

In terms of pure game mechanics, the only races that shouldn't (logically) ally with the Tau are Tyranids, Necrons, and (perhaps) Orks. When it comes to a good game though, anything goes!

the fact marines and tau could be distrustful allies during EoT was merely a game mechanic so the tau, despite being 3/4 of a galaxy away from the campaign could be squeezed into a conflict they'd never be in, in the fluff.

During EoT, the tau played no part in the main campaign, but were a mere spectator, who took advantage of the fact all the IG troops were offed to cadia to swell the tau empire with the third phase colonies.

OK, so aside from kroot, who'd ally with the tau? The tau hold sway over plenty races within their empire, and have the ability to hire plenty mercenaries from other races should they desire to. According to the BFG fluff, many minor races in the 40k background prefer tau to the Imperials, as tau will let them live and won't destroy them out of spite!

Within the tau empire the races that serve the tau'va are:
kroot
humans
nicassar
And while not a part of the tau empire, we do know that through trade agreements, tau can hire demiurg, most notable in BFG, but not as yet as ground troops in the 40k game.
As well, i'd assume plenty other races would be willing to sell their services: taurellians, for example would serve through their disgust of humans.

the sad thing is: we don't know the fluff of any other alien races serving the tau. Perhaps, the next tau codex, or revised codex (according to Portent it'll be called tau:empires) will have more fluff, but don't hold your breath.

On the battlefield, I'd assume that, in a jam, Imperial Guard, Eldar and perhaps maybe Space Marines might ally with tau if they're faced with a common enemy, at which point they'll happily turn their guns on each other. However, as stated, the particular doctrine, and dogma of particular SM chapters, and IG regiments might prevent them from allying at all, in the first place.

"What warriors of men can stand beside the Space Wolves! The Sons of Fenris they are, hardened in the forge of their harsh world, eager for battle and honour. They are the grey warriors, ashen like the wolf, whose greatest joy is to hear the clamour of steel amidst the din of war. None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperor's foes."

These are fluff races, mentioned in the main rulebook but not possessing a main codex or set of rules unto themselves. Basically, they are background and not much else. Perhaps in the future, they'll be given a greater spotlight but for now they exist only as a gleam in the eye of modellers and conversionists everywhere!

One of my threads mentions the fluff that is known about the Nicasser and Demiurg. To summarize, both are spaceborn. The Nicasser are thin, fragile psychic polar-bear type creatures with superb ship handling and the Demiurg are "Space-Dwarves", being craftsmen with knowledge of mining and hating Orks.

Orks can work with anyone, although Tau are unlikely to rekroot them. (You CAN get Ork Mercenaries)

Fluffwize, a clever commander might be able to get Orks to fight for the Tau with this simple expediant:
"Us blue skinnies are punny in combat and you orks gets no fun from crumpin us, why not just Waagh over thatway, we'll give you free transport and you can fight hummies' who can actully fight back."
