its a good idea so you can distinguish them from the rest of the unit it also upgrades the look of the unit, if you paint the way that is shown in the codex you should probably use vomit brown and then 50/50 vomit brown and beachead bone, then go around the edges with normal bleached bone

Ah, not one with the western Empire, are you?
Well, then you have to look at where you're putting it first. Since your armour is blue, then look at what looks good on blue, not what looks good on your blue and your red/brown.
I generally suggest contrasting colours, so maybe yellow? White is generally the best colour, but if you wanna stay away from that, your choices become along the lines of either: yellow, pink, light blue, silver, gold, green, grey, or a mix of those colours. I personally suggest either yellow or green for your guys. But as long as it's light enough to distinguish from the armour colour (presuming it looks dark in the first place (I've never used regal, and the coloured pictures at the stores don't do the paints justice >_&gt).
And don't forget that that there's plenty of examples of Shas'ui markings in the codex. They're really stripes with stipplings on the helmets.

Well, what you can do is use a number system.
Say, you have a line and a stipple at the end for squad one, then a double line and one stipple for squad two, ect. for your Shas'ui, while non-shas'ui team leaders can go without the stipple, or something.
Then for a higher ranked models, you can give them more stipples to designate their rank. So two would make a 'vre, and thee makes an 'el, ect.
Or other things can work too. This is only one of many possibilities that can work, and it's within Tau fluff and codex art to work well. It just might be a little hard to actually do -_-.

You know how the helmets on normal FWs are kind of quartered? I have different alternating check patterns that I apply to different quarters.
