Default Devilfish gun drones

So does the gun-drone 2ndary weapon on a devilfish fire with the devilfish's BS of 3 or the normal gun drone BS of 2? I assume that they use the Devilfish's BS of 3 until they detach and become their own unit. I base this assumption on the fact that you can buy the SMS upgrade and they don't have a BS mentioned and thus would be forced to take the BS of the devilfish... what do you think?

No, they use their own BS. However, with the TL nature of their weapons they technically have a better overall chance at hitting than a BS3 attack would (without the TL'd weapons, of course).

The drones also give up a KP when they die after detaching as well as not being able to benefit from the same markerlight hit that the DF would be able to.

However, these drawbacks are slightly balanced by a few off-hand perks.
1) SMS's cost points, drones don't.
2) Detached drones can be used to shield units
3) Detached drones can also be used to contest objectives, though they can't take them.

Indeed, it was FAQed by Game Workshop. Gun drone uses their own BS.

What do you mean by:

"not being able to benefit from the same markerlight hit that the DF would be able to.'

Or do you mean that using both the Devilfish and drones would expend 2 markerlight hits?

Say that there is a single markerlight hit on a squad... Well you could choose to boost the DF's BS OR the drones BS. The benefit can only be used for either the gun drones or the DF individually for the benefit(s).

I thought while still attached they are part of the devilfishes shooting, and they only become a seperate unit after they attached.

What exactly in the wording of their rules prevents them from being able to use the same markerlight token?

I quote from the official GW Tau Errata http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/co...400019&start=2

Quote:
Q. If you have Gun Drones on a vehicle (i.e. not
detached) and increase the BS of the vehicle
using a markerlight, is the BS of the Gun Drones
increased as well?
A. No.

LOL! so the "exact wording" that prevents this is "No."

Indeed, it is probably one of the clearest ruling you can get from GW or any company, despite the fact that it hinders us a bit. However a Twin-link BS2 is about as good as a single shot BS3.

Curse that errata, i see now exactly why that is now.

But i still dont see how thats fair considering before dismbarking the drones are APART of the Devilfish and act as their weapons.

So i must ask now because as far i consider it, its the same. Can gun drones attached to a Friewarriors team benefit from a marker token the sqaud is using?
