Default Failsafe Detonator, anyone roll with it?

I put one on my bodyguards of my commander. The SM guy I play with likes CC and the IG player likes to infiltrate and deep strike near my HQ so I put it on as a little surprise going away present if I lose the assault. I like it enough that I keep it whenever I play with my bodyguards.

Anyone else use it?

I only really use it if I were to take O'Shovah, as he can take a lot more suits (And there-fore afford to can "afford" to loose one as oppose to the whole squad) as bodyguards. But other wise I don't run bodyguard on my commander so I don't take it. But it is a nice little surprise for people who don't know/expect it, and for something not too expensive.

FAILSAFE HEATWAVE MONAT!!!

VS. ORKS

OH YEAH!!!

... no, seriously; it's quite effective and can take down more boyz than should be legal >.

My buddies dance around on their side of the table trying to decide whether to ignore him, risk a lot of ID'd Nobz when he goes off, or sacrifice a whole squad to remove 1 TL template JSJ-er worth ~50 pts. Me like .

Yea, but you have to get him to survive CC and run at that. :P

Drones and shields my friend, well mostly just drones. OR if you really wanted Iridium armor and stim injector. all a little bit expensive which is why is stick with lots of drones. The failsafe is just what I use to make my opponent think twice before they charge.

I still think that it should go off if the unit with it dies. It makes no sense that you have to fail a leadership test to use it.
On that note I did have it work to great success with a squad of twin linked flamer suits who deepstruck in with 6 drones. All the drones took the wounds, died, and allowed me to fail my leader ship, then boom! All after the flaming deepstrike. Glorious.

I think that the fail safe detonator is one of the most insultingly poorly thought out pieces of wargear in all of 40k. to save a squad of crisis suits in close combat I've got to sacrifice a highly trained veteran fire warrior in a crisis suit? that's pretty friggin' ridiculous to me. It's just a bomb vest essentially. It could very easily be given to a drone. That's why they need to make the fail safe detonator drone and not the fail safe detonator wargear option for crisis suits. The only reasonably practical application for it is to use it in commander farsights bodyguard unit where you're sacrificing 1 crisis suit to save the other 7. But in any other application it's pretty worthless.

I wouldn't mind it so bad if it would go off when the wearer died. It just seems to disappear if he's slain. After a combat is resolved, if the wearer chooses to (in the terms of failing the leadership and exiting combat) he stays, squad leaves, boom! Or if you pass the leadership, but the one with the detonator actually died, the rest of the squad may exit combat while the one with the detonator makes his last stand! I dunno, it's good, just feels like somethings missing.

I could see where your going with this. Maybe instead of making it any old drone. It could be a special issue drone or something.
