Default Target Locks and TArget Priority tests

So I never played Warhammer in 4th ed. Therefore I'm a little confused with the operation of battlesuit target locks. I have no idea what a target priority test is or how to do one because as far as I know it doesn't exist in 5th ed. So my question is simple, do we still need to do target priority tests in order to use a target lock and if so how do I do it?

Thanks a ton

Nope, Target Priority Tests have gone the way of the Dodo. However Target Locks are still very much useful. Essentially they allow a user to shoot and something different than the rest of their unit. Simple as that.

So it's just a mulligan - aka it works everytime and I don't need to roll any test to make it work?

Now. Yes. That is pretty much the general conscensus. That's one place were Tau got a minor boost with the new rules. This is especially useful if combined with a markerlight though.

Too bad you can't put a target lock on a markerlight drone :-[

Considering they lack hard points, sadly no.

There is a way how to get around this somehow, though it wastes an Elite slot. Get a Monat Crisis and give him a Target Lock and 2 Marker Drones. Shoot with the Drones (they always go first) and then use the Target Lock to engage a different target with the suit.

...Or a stealth suit leader in a team. I would wager the Stealths would be more survivable most of the time as well.

So can the marker drone attached to a stealth team leader benefit from the target lock so long as the team leader is outfitted with the drone controller? That would be excellent cause then you could give the leader a fusion blaster, markerlight drone, taget lock, and hard wired drone controller; whenever the blaster is out of range you could use the team leader to paint a separate unit like a tank for a seeker missile

Nope, the drones must fire at the same target as the unit (so the steath suit in tihs case). So no dice.
