I'm assuming you mean 'O and 'El Commanders...

I find most people I know paint the helmets differently. For example, here's a sample colour scheme I came up with;

Shas'la: Cream body, cream helm.
Shas'Ui: Cream body, red helm.
Shas'Vre: Cream body, black helm.
Shas'El: Cream body, gold helm.
Shas'O: Red body, gold helm.

It makes picking each out quick and easy.

Fluffwise, everyone has different markings on thier armour (i.e. your sept symbol) that denotes your rank, where your from, your unit etc.

Personally in my army, the higher the rank, the more blue (because that's the sept colour i use) i paint them.

I'm exactly the same except Red.

'La = No Red bar as sept symbals ect
'Ui FW/PF = Red on the right half of helm and the centre strip of the Shoulder pad and the shoulder pad on the right arm
'Ui Suits = No Red (Same as 'La)
'Vre = Red Heads
'El = Red on the Body + Head
'O = same as 'El but with Mitheral Silver rather than Boltgun for the non plated parts of legs.

Also for Squad Designation on the Right Leg Armour I colour coordinate the strips. so for example Squad 1 would have both of the top strips coloured; Squad 2 would have the second and third coloured; Squad 3 is third and fourth. If I need more than 3 (highly Unlikely ATM) then I will have to use something like first and third strips or something like that.

But if your meaning the Helmets in the Commander XV8 box then I don't think it matters. You could easily use those to designate which commanders which if you wanted.

Well I was actually asking before I start gluing. (I was thinking I might have to magnetize heads or something like I have the weapons). If I tell my opponent that the Commander is 'O one game and that the Commander is 'El the next game there isn't much he can do or should I paint both helmets (differently) and magnetize them? Speaking of which is there an easy way to mod metallic bitz? Inserting magnets takes a long time and dulls my blades...

There is 3 means I use. Head, Color, bonding knife.

My ShasMui and shas'vre uses the basic head, the color scheme is slightly different and the 'vre has a bonding knife (even if not on his wargear...I make usre my opponent knows it though).

The Commander either use the metal head or they are Forge World models.

Im doing it alittle something like this:

Anything without an XV suit:
Shas'la: Purple armour. Purple helmet. (The colour I decided to go with)
Shas'Ui: Purple armour. Blue helmet. (Tank commanders goes here aswell)

Anything in an XV suit:
Shas'Ui: Purple armour. Blue shoulders.
Shas'Vre: Purple armour. Blue shoulders. Blue helmet.
Shas'El-Shas'O: White Armour. Blue shoulders. Blue helmet.

Terrain flora will be done in purple and soil in a dark red. Earth nature is browns/greens for the most part. I decided to go with purples/reds for my otherworldly flora. Thus it only makes sense to make camouflage in similar colours.

Use a small drill bit based upon the size of the magnet need (since a Cyclic Ion Blaster would need a magnet of less strength than say, a Rail Gun from a Broadsides).

Drills will help with a number of other projects too (bored out barrels, conversions, broken flying stems, etc.

I have a drill, the Citadel one. It comes with a 1mm drill bit and no others that I am aware of. For guns and similar equipment I use 2x1mm magnets. For the bigger stuff I have 5x5mm magnets. Even with the 1mm drill bit I don't get very deep very quickly, could you recommend a better drill?

I actually just use normal drill bits. I have a small craftsmen set that came with 10 or so drill bits. It's awkward to hold if you have sweat or anything on your hands but the come in more sizes and won't snap as easily as I found the Citadel drill bits to do.

I imagine any small tool set by the big name brands would do, heck for all I know Home Depot or Lowes will have individual drill bits (I don't doubt it).
