Default Using 2 Commanders a viable setup?

I initially bought some models to get started on building my army. And Ive done the math of which models to buy next and Ive basically come up with needing 8 more Crisis Suits (3 of which will be converted into Broadsides)
And the cheapest way to get those is by buying that huge box with 9 Crisis Suits and 3 Stealth Suits in it.
And it just so happens that I have just enough pts left for a Shas'o (or Shas'el whichever is the 50 pts one) with Multitracker, Targeting Array, AFP and CIB.

But anyway thats beside the point. Is it completely idiotic of me to bring 2 Commanders?

Speaking very generally, the points required for most commanders is commonly better spent on Crisis Suit teams, who are generally more efficient in kills/points and not uncommonly have more wounds per point.

Okay. So if I only bring one Commander is CIB-AFP-MT-TA a good setup or have I completely missed the mark? Or should I upgrade to the bigger Commander and instead of TA give him a Missile Pod or Burst Cannon??

As this is my initial army and Im aiming for a balanced force Im trying to build each piece of it to be maximised against their preferred target. And to me this seems like a piece that can be highly effective against big squads of small soft targets.
My most regular opponent will be Imperial Guards and more than 10 years of playing against this guy in WHFB says he is gonna either bringing 10+ armoured vehicles or none at all. And hes gonna change from game to game in an unpredictable manner so too little anti-tank stuff in some battles and too much anti-tank stuff in other battles are gonna kill me. So Ill need an army that can do well under ''tournament conditions''.

PS: Can a commander without a retinue join a Crisis Suit Squad?

Yes, a commander with no retinue can (this includes drones, iirc).

Honestly, I deck my commander out with either CIB&BC (to benefit from the higher BS) or CIB&PR (to make him more effective vs MEQ/TEQ). While I've considered the CIB&AFP, I just feel as though the AFP is a big waste of the commander's BS.

I bring a couple commanders in a lot of my armies. It's not a terrible idea. One commander designed to sit back and shoot along with the rest of the crisis suit commanders except they'll shoot more accurately because of targeting arrays and be more survivable because of shield drones. I'll take another commander or squad designed to get close to my opponent and draw fire from the scoring units. It works pretty well. Just have to make sure you don't get bogged down in assault.

If you are taking 2 commander, I would recommend the following combo.
1 Centurion ('El with plasma rifle, CIB, targeting array, and HW-multi tracker), possibly with stims and shield drones.
(opt) with 2 Helios+ bodyguards.
1 'El with twin linked missile pods, positional relay, iridium armor, and 2 shield drones.

The idea is, your use the first commander to deepstrike, and the second to bring him in early.

I've tried two commanders once, found it's abit of a point sink and prevented me from bring more troops, which I sorely needed later on

They did, but you can still find some in stores (if you are really really lucky).
