Default A.S.S. and drones RAW/RAI

A.S.S. The last sentence states: "the unit may still take drones"

Does this mean:
A) A.S.S. may be used as a drone controller in addition to its obvious function
B) A model with A.S.S. may still take a drone controller in addition to the A.S.S.
C) It only means the team leader can take a HW DC
D) the model explodes spontaneously on a D6 of 4+
E) Other (specify)___________________________________

It means that Slow and Purposeful is passed onto the drones.

No it's not. Look at the FAQ page 2, last entry of the left column. It clearly state that the A.S.S. benefit is not passed on the Drones.

As for the OP.

I would be incline to say C) would be the right answer.

As per the codex text, if one model in a unit is equipped with an A.S.S., then all models in the unit must take it as well. Now since drones lack a hard-point and thus the ability to equip them, the addition to the rules is simply to clear up any issues with people saying that because drones can't take A.S.S.'s and all models in a unit equipped with them must take them, that drones couldn't be taken. I think people figured out the spirit of the rule without the extra text but there are those out there that would argue that a Broadside team with A.S.S.'s couldn't take drones (probably because they hate seeing their lascannons bounce off of them heh).

there is much much much room for debate on this and to save time i think it would be beneficial to all contributors of this thread to read he following thread from dakka

I don't see the debate at all:

If 1 broadise takes A.S.S. then every broadside MUST take A.S.S. which grant them slow and purposeful a USR that acts in a way similar to Relentless but affect infantry only.

The GW FAQ clearly state that the Slow and Purposeful bonus is not granted to the drones, only the XV-88.

Nothing prevents the Leader to take a HW drone controller and 2 drones- both of which acts as regular infantry, like the XV-88.

Case close.

If you want to move and use marker drones take either Xv-8s r stealth suits as they are more mobile. Why do you want to use marker lights on the same target as railguns I do not get either. You could get a targeting array for a squad for less than the marker light hits. You can fire marker lights from other targets as well if you need to remove vehicle cover saves. This also is like blacksun filters which are the same way and do not effect drones.

thats not the question. the question is in relation to shield drones, but can be applied to others. The preamble to the question is, the rules nowhere say that a) a model must have a drone controller to have drones (although this is a no brainer, it is still relevant), nor b) does it clarify whether or not suits that take support and/or weapons systems (crisi and broadsie) count as having access to the armoury for wargear purposes since the suppor/weapons systems are in the armoury.

The question is, can non tl models take shield drones with the a.s.s., or can they take a DC, or can they take a HWDC, or use some device wherein they could take more than 2 drones per team

THe A.S.S. count as the Broadside support system, so the regular suit would not be able to take a drone controler, however the team leader could take a Hardwire drone controler: Thus at most the team would be 3 suits with A.S.S and 2 drones (of whatever type).

The Drones doesn't gain A.S.S, however they must maintain unit coherency and cannot go faster then the slowest unit...as stated in the rulebook.
