Default Powerfists, please!

I was thinking really hard... and then I had a thought! Why don't suits have the option of equipping a powerfist? The Tau may be slow, but that doesn't matter because powerfists strike last anyways...

Tau haven't invested in the technology of close combat. They would much rather use a railgun and splatter the enemy from far away than equip a battlesuit with a powerfist. This would be encouraging the barbaric practice of hand to hand combat. What tau would rather club his enemy to death than blow him away with a big, nasty gun?

* *what? you mean like a Dawn Blade for normal crisis suits? that would be really cool! 8)

but it would have to be in a farsight army if ever it was...

Well, it would be da bomb, 'cause you could assault and win sometimes, unlike with kroot. They would be a support unit in your army, capable of wasting away units with ease if you backed em up with a side of drones...

Technology can accomplish so much / ;D

Here's how it would work:

Super-die-death-killinator-chopper-slasher-shooter-gun [20 Pts]

6 Range
8 Strength
2 Armor Peircing
4 Attacks

Woa there tiger.. a power fist?

A Tau battlesuit equipped with a Power Fist would be anywhere from Strength 8 to Strength 10, ignore armor saves, and end up insta-killing too many marine commanders or punching in the face plate of a Land Raider. GW will not allow this, at all costs, even if that means removing Tau from the 40k universe (ok, so that's a bit drastic, but in a strange way it's true probably...). As many others have already said, Tau despise close combat, it is dishonorable to them and just looked upon as a barbaric method and waste of time.

Now on the other hand, training their suits to use their weapon systems in combat as an upgrade (much like how Ork Bikes function) for the first round of combat, that would make a little more sense and not be too overly strong of an upgrade on a Race that already lacks combat ability buffs in all forms (exception: cute little honor blades on Ethereals). For example, in the first round of combat, being able to fire as normal one time, in the first round of combat at their attackers as the defense mechanisms of the Suit itself do not even need to really take time to aim to hit something that is rushing at it's face. However, again, this probably will never happen.

Tau are quite simply not meant to be a combat artist army. That is the main attraction for many players to them, to take the single most powerful phase in 40k and take the Tau out of it. The assault phase is simply devastating compared to what the shooting phase can do. Tau are very vulnerable to the assault phase, and not that great in the shooting phase compared to some other races, but that's why we love them so much--their finesse and flavor.

*Curls up and cries*

1) The Tau HATE and DESPISE close combat and want no part of sacrificing valuble long-range weapons for CC weapons.
2) Super-die-death-killinator-chopper-slasher-shooter-gun?! Its got less range and worse armour penetration than a fusion blaster.
3) Can Tau even use power weapons? *They have no psichic abilities.

One does not have to be psychic to wield a power weapon...a power weapon (Imperial Issue anyways) has some sort of "battery" that makes a "charge" in the blade, making it capable of cutting so well... 8)

I would just like to say that it would be nice to have close combat weapons for suits but you have to see that:
1. It goes against their beliefs.
2. Tau aren't suppose to be in CC.
3. Not being good in close combat just adds to the fun of the challenge of playing the Tau, it is like how the Eldar weapons cant hurt paper, it makes you expand your mind as to how to figure out how to win.

The Tau are like the Brittish army during the Revolution, they fought like formidable men, frowned upon suprise attacks, and had firering lines.

You have to realize that GW isn't going to give Tau much in the was of CC.
I'm sorry but it is true, Tau will never be good in close combat.

Thank you Commander Cool, that was well said but for a couple things:

1) The Tau use swift ambush attacks and lures; they fight like hunters, and employ ambush tactics frequently, esspecially when Kroot are involved. And... umm... *cough* Stealths?! Pathfinders!? They just scream 'supprise attack', not to mention codex fluff.

2) "Eldar weapons can't hurt paper". 40 S4 BS rerolling shots from a single Storm Guardian squad is "Can't Hurt Paper in your book?" Thats more firepower than two 10-man Marine squads :-\.
