Default FOF with full fishes

Can Fish of Fury be done with 12 FW's in each fish, popping out for 48 rapid fire shots?

No. True LOS prevents this. I am pretty sure there is a universal rule stating you can't shoot under a skimmer.

Unless you forgo their protective cushion that is the Fish. But that would defeat the purpose of the FoF.

If I am not mistaken there is a rule saying that skimmers don't block line of sight but the do still convey a 4+ cover save.... which is irrelevant with AP5 weapons.

If you can draw a TLOS from all the FW's to all the targets then yes, 4+ coversave, both ways. Use a higher flying stand and test it out. They can shoot you too, but you can shoot them without fear of a countercharge (and only should if they're 4+ armour or below) assuming the DF stays there and they aren't Fleet or Waaagh-ing Orks (my last game consisted of me doing that to some 'Ard Boyz and getting inundated by 6 Waaaghs in a row, 6!!! That Weirdboy is soooo dead first thing next time).

Wait, are you saying they actually got around to the back of the fish?

Yup.

A Weirdboy Waaagh is an auto-6 for the run roll (or my 'friend' was cheating... that's likely... he's not good at reading rules).

We were playing on a 4' x 4' table.

And Flechette Dischargers/Launchers don't do much to 20 Orks w/ 4+ armour saves, statistics my ass. He failed like 4 saves and ate my poor firewarriors in one round of combat...

I'm an Ork player as well, and I happen to know that a weirdboy Waaagh! is NOT an auto 6 on the run checks. Ghazhghull Thraka's special Waaagh! does that, and his special Waaagh! can only be used once per game. Any extra Waaagh!'s from Weirdboys follow the normal rules for Waaagh!.

That almost helps. Still, FOF is designed for avoiding assault and rapid firing. A good opponent could pull-off an assault with only 1" extra.

Using devilfish was never effective against units that could move more than 12". As for shooting, the enemy (and you) get cover saves. Alternatively if you believe you can full eliminate the unit you are firing at you can just unload them from the sides and shot away. That is the way I use devilfish. A safe way to transport troops to within 12" of the enemy so that they can unload 24 shots on them.

My understanding of this (And I did a fair amount of inquiry and research) is that yes this is possible if you use low flying stands and standing FW (for true LOS) and if you park the 'fish in a /\ formation in front of the warriors to shield and cover them from assault. They need to all be able to see over the wings. They get thier 4+ cover save (nice is hitting an opponent that can AP FW armor.) You can launch the drones to further "buffer" your firewarriors from assault. Basically if you want to FoF now you really need to bust out your troops and very carefully look around at thier positioning and LOS at table eye view around the 'fish.
