One of my main tactics against IG is to use 3 full squads of XV25's, nothing says "Oh hello!" to a few squads of Guardsmen like 54 Strength 5 shots that ignore his armour (unless they have Carapace...).
You can even extend this even more by using your Fast Attack choices, a few squads of Gun Drones or 15 Pirahnas (not cheesy at all...) - swarm in and unload drones, taking out Tanks on the way with Fusion Blasters.

My personal choice is either Missile Pod and Plasma, or Missile Pod and Burst Cannon. This can really upset a Guard player if you combine all of these options.

I definately agree with other people about Kroot, they are great, especially with the new Outflank rule.
However, stay away from flamers...

With the ammount of cover available nowadays AP value's aren't even something I even take into consideration. I just focus on getting high str weapons to make sure I can wound because just about everything I shoot at it behind some sort of cover anyways.

Well you might want to keep a few around, especially for deep-striking marines. They won't generally want to land in cover, if they can avoid it.

If you are really annoyed about cover, then I suggest taking an AFL, as it ignores said problem.
