Question about smart missile system

Default Question about smart missile system

Okey, so there is something that have been bothering me for quite some time now. When you mount a hammerhead tank with burst cannons you get two of them.. they are not twin-linked and can shoot at different targets. all this for 10pt .. this will give you 6 shots with str 5 ap 5 /per round

Now for 20pt.. you get a smart missile system.. do they mean that it is two Sms that just like the burst cannons are not twin-linked? .. cause if they are.. you get 8 hits str 5 ap 5 per round.. if you don't you only get 4 hits and I don't really see why it would cost twice as much as the burst cannons..

Now, if you get two of them does that apply to sms that are mounted on devilfishes aswell?

It's a single weapon.

And it's good because it doesn't need LOS

Okey.. got to change my army list then I think. I need more fire power then that. I do like the whole thing about not needing LoS and the 24 inch range... but I need more shots per round.

They can also negate night fighting and target priority tests and the added range.

Oh I am still keeping them on two of my tanks, however in my tornament army I use 3 transports and 3 tanks so I am just gonna remove it from a few of them so I can use the points on something else.

Another thing actually popped into my head. Devilfish transports may replace the gundrones with a SMS. Does that mean they still carry the burst cannon?

Yes, they still carry the burst cannon thats underneath the front of the ship.

There is no such thing as Target Priority tests in 5th Edition.

The SMS is awesome, since it allows you to fire through a building completely blocking normal LOS. It is just 1 weapon and therefore a Warfish can fire it even if it moves for 12".

Well when you can only fire 1 weapon after moving (curse the Defensive Weapons being Str 4) an SMS would have 1 more shot at longer range, ignoring LoS.

And they (SMS) are twin-linked.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned that yet (I read the thread, but, well: human error exists. GW proved it :-\)

May I ask you to reread the Codex. Both the entry for SMS and Vehicle/Broadside entry. They are all equipped with AN SMS and the SMS itself is not Twin Linked. Sorry 'bout that, would be sweet if it was though
