Default Markerlight Theory

I was checking through my army list to see what could be tweaked when a thought occurred to me about the fire support applications of hammerheads, as well as marker lights on fire warrior Shas'ui. Here is what I came up with.

12 Fire Warriors
w/Shas'ui, bonding knife, markerlight, multi-tracker

That's right. Multi-tracker. The idea is simple - the squad fires on enemy infantry with all 12 guns and the Shas'ui fires the markerlight on top of that. Then the hammerhead (either rail or ion variants are acceptable) coordinates with the warriors and opens up on the target. The markerlight, if it hits, will allow the big gun to cause more enemies to go splat!

One problem: you want the tank to fire first.

Any sort of blast weapons, especially large blast, benefit when the squad is in higher numbers, so you don't want to thin them out beforehand.

That's why ion cannon are an acceptable substitute. Besides, with certain horde formations, pulse rifles aren't going to punch that big of a hole to adversely affect any submunitions rounds.

My point still stands, regarding railheads.

Although, with ionheads, yeah, that could work. It's a little static for my tastes, but it could still work.

FIVE points for ONE pulse shot? At BS3? No, I don't think that's necessary...

Think of it as switching out the ever-popular target lock in favor of the extra shot and giving the markerlight a more specific use. In that case, you'd be spending no extra points.

I think it really depends on what else is in your army because a 12 man fire warrior squad with markerlight and multi-tracker firing at a target and then having a tank shoot at that same target is not very impressive(only the tank benefits from the markerlight).

So maybe you can tell us what else in your army so then we can help give more advice.

Target Lock is way more versatile IMO, particularly in high-point games where my army is more spread out; it allows me to split my fire more effectively, and criss-cross firing units as I did in my last game.

FIVE points for ONE pulse shot? At BS3? No, I don't think the target lock is in any way a better idea then this. I personally like the multi-tracker idea since it will most likely result in the target enemies total destruction.

Of course it doesn't have to be a tank, but any unit can be used to coordinate fire with the markerlight unit. A lot of shooting involves concentrating fire on the target. The markerlight will help with that and the multi-tracker will ensure you get every shot you can.
