Default Bugger Drones: Disks of Death

I was just looking at the fifty some odd Gun Drone sprues, and wondered if there's something more we can be doing to pump some life into these often overlooked frisbees.

I guess some overarching questions are: How often do people play their conversions against random in store opponents? What's a fair way to calculate a custom model's point value? And if you are making a custom unit, what's proper etiquette in how it fits into your army? (Ex: THIS Unit is called the "Terminator's Nightmare" and I've maxed it out.)

I love the work some people have done with Flamer Drones, and of course FW's Heavy drones are something to drool over, but I was thinking could these Drones evolve into the "tau's cheap tactical squads"? What are the thoughts of combining different drones into one squad?

Also, how about a Failsafe Detonator drone? That sounds viciously fiendish.

you could also have a suit in an epic pose with olny one gun and then have two drones on the base with the other hard points ;D

to figure up the cost use 20-the cost of a TL flamer for the base cost and then add the cost of another TL suit system from the armory. for a non TL wpn use 10 as the base cost and then add the cost of the suit wpn. this should be balanced out well (i hope). ;D

I converted extra gun drones to both sniper and shield drones. I used devilfish/hammerhead pilots for my sniper drone spotters.

Now that I got enough drones for all my suits and tanks I have been adding a bit of armor around the bottom of the disc ( to show the extra armor, wound and lower I of a suit) and putting whatever guns on them and replacing the antenna with a suit system they seem to work pretty well as suit count as for my army. When ever I buy more magnets I plan to grind off the tabs that hold the carbines on and put magnets there and sink one in the top so I can customize them.

With this set up I can hook up a twin burst cannon or burst cannon and target lock (T. lock counts as the marker light) and run them as heavy drone squads or put the suit systems on them and run them as my suits.

Thanks for all the responses.

Well then, would a group of 6 drones (two guns, 2 flamers, and 2 TL BC), be broken in a single unit all to themselves? Or would they have to be moved to another slot in the force chart? I'm thinking of a drone squad that can be upgraded and have different armament's to compliment what the drones are running around for like a drone tactical squad.

also, Any ideas on what the Failsafe detonator on a drone should look like?
