Default Fluff: Tau Lifespan

I've read that Tau have short lifespans. How short are we talking about in earth years, or at least relative to other races?

IIRC it is something like 38-45 (earth) years old on average.

The 3rd Edition Codex said that at the age of 40, Aun'shi was considered "old for a Tau", yet he was still battling Orks in close combat and winning, and was soon after selected to lead a fresh expedition into the Gulf to look for Farsight.

Xenology has a 49 year old female Aun in it, who showed no signs of senility, infirmity, or otherwise old age.

The 5th Edition Rulebook states that Tau live relatively short lifespans, 40 years being the "norm". Tau do not really experience "old age" like we humans do - infirmity comes suddenly, with death following very soon after. It also states, however, that some Tau have drastically lengthened lifespans for reasons unknown, "as if their lifespans were linked to the manifest destiny of the race itself."

In the fluff, a few examples of this phenomenon are Farsight and Shadowsun, who were both pupils of Puretide during the Damocles Gulf Crusade (ca. 742.M41), and Brightsword, who was present at Arkunasha with Farsight (ca. 745-760.M41) and died in 996/997.M41.

so what's the record for the oldest tau 200 years? That's a bit of a age gap between members of the same species. OH OH and does anybody have averages between the castes?

So far, there's no evidence that any of the Caste members live longer natural lives than the others, but I'd imagine the Fire Caste to have the largest proportional numbers of young/youth given that many will die in combat at some point in their lives, with the Kor in a far off second place.

Regarding the oldest Tau on record, that title would have to go to Aun'va.

Vior'la was settled many thousands of years ago, and there is a mountain there named after the very first Ethereal to set hoof upon the summit and preach the Tau'va.

That mountain is named Aun'va Peak.

We can only guess at his real age...

Well, so far, not all Ethereals may live that long...

Aun'shi was still considered "old for a Tau" at 40, after all.

Aun'va is just somehow... Special...

He might have been the one from that old legend, about the formation of the castes... or at least one of them.

Oh no! The Paradox of Duality is a cursed artifact . It must grant him abnormally long life while corrupting him and calling to its one true master, waiting to be found... :
