Default Crazy rules Lawyering or Do I Have something Here?

I came to a realization about vehicle-mounted gun drones that made go "hmm". I was just wondering if this theory would hold water.

If a Devilfish dedicated to a unit of Fire warriors has gun drones, then those gun drones can claim objectives.

Here's my reasoning. As they count as a separate unit within a Troops choice, they are also Troops. Just like the squads in an Imperial Guard platoon - multiple units in a single Troops choice that can all score. One can also use the same example in splitting a Space Marine tactical squad into 2 teams.

Of course this cannot work with Piranhas, Hammerheads, Sky Rays, or Pathfinder-attached Devilfish.

So what do you think? If you disagree, please use a rules example to support it.

This is actually clarified in the Tau vehicle equipment section:

"Tau vehicle Gun Drones never count as scoring vehicles."

They can still be used to contest an objective, though.

Cheers,

well they can be used to "contest" an objective. .... Two gun drones aren't much contestation, though if the game ends there with no shooting at the drones..... that might be a different story... I prefer SMS's for their ability to deny cover saves.

Plus the fact that the drones arewargears and passengers of the vehicule: they are not a unit per say and vehicule can NEVER be a scoring unit...which is just reinforced by the FAQ.

Now it's my turn to quote the Codex!

Pg. 27 under Smart Missile System

"The target can count the benefits of cover they are in, or are touching if it lies between them and the firer."

Gorin is right...although if you play your SMS well, cover save won't be an issue.

yeah, if the model is not in or touching the intervening terrain, then the cover save is denied. otherwise they get it.
