Default Target Locks and Drone Controllers

Can a model equipped with both a target lock and controlled drones fire at different targets?

IE model at target A and GDs at target B

Cheers

The Gun drones fire, for all purposes, as if they were now regular models that are a member of the unit they're attached to.

This means that, unless the entire team has TLs, the Gun Drones fire at the same target as the rest of the unit. Any models with TLs can fire at different targets as normal for TL rules.

Unusualsuspect pretty much got it.

So:

1 XV-8 Shas'vre with TL and DC and Gun drones. The gun drone must fire at the same target...in effect the TL is a waste of point.

1 XV-8 Shas'vre with target lock and DC with gun drones and 2 XV-8 Shas'ui. The gun drones shoot at the same target as the unit (eg the shas'ui) whereas the Shas'vre can target a seperate unint if he so desire.

I don't think this is true, The Shas'vre and the 2 drones form a squad right? (think to shadowsun) So couldn't you declare that the squad (consisting of 1 'Vre and 2 Gun Drones) shoots at say some Necron Warriors, but then you could use the TL to have the 'Vre shoot at say some Heavy Destroyers instead of the Warriors? they still form a squad.

No, I'm pretty sure it is good since the 'vre is the squad, so the Gun drones must fire with it.

Now if the Gundrones were the one with the TL (as it is the case with sniper drones) then a single 'vre with 2 drones could target more then 1 unit.

edit:
However I can see your point and it does make sense too.

The reason I ask is that R'Myr must have drones to go with him. And did I really want to waste points on two GD or one SD.

But since the rules state that an independant character forms a unit with his controlled drones, while the TL allows the character to shoot at a different target from the unit.

Now since a 'Vre is not an independant character you get no argument from me, what about an IC?

this has been covered before in depth. the conclusion was that since as stated in the codex the gun drones and the crisis suit form a uunit. A model with a target lock may fire at seperate targets from the rest of their unit. Therefore since the gun drones (who do not have target locks) and the crisis suit form a unit then the crisis suit may fire at whoever he wants and the drones fire seperately. So yes, the original posters assumption was correct.
