Default What to buy first

As in my Intro... I have a substantial Eldar army and My son has IG

I want to start a small "Farsight" Army (No Kroot and use Human Aux's)

I want to start from scratch.
Hummm

Commander Farsight
12 Fire Warriors
12 Fire Warriors (Torso-weps)
12 Catachan (Arm-leg-head-Bandanna will match Burgundy of Commander Farsight)
2 Devilfish (I presume to hold the two squads)

From there I am at a stand Still but asking for advise to start a 1850 Burgundy Brigade

Can you put Gue'Vasa in a Farsight army?

But first thing I can say is get enough Fire Warriors for objective taking, then plan on filling up your Crisis Suit squads. One of Farsight's advantages is his retinue is potentially HUGE, it would be one thing I'd be looking to maximize on. Don't forget that many normal army options won't be allowed to you, due to Farsight's restrictions (0-1 on all Heavy Support for example), so your Crisis Suits will have to take up a lot of that slack.

I would say buy a battle force box

1 Crisis suit,
3 XV25 Stealth Suits
6 Gun Drones
12 Fire Warriors
12 Kroot
1 Devilfish

or two

if you are going to be only ever using farsight then find someone to sell/pawn the kroot off on. but kroot are not a terrible ally, if you are going to be playing many <1500point games then they are not bad to have (they cost like IG and assault similar to eldar). now I will say that half the stuff in a battle force was not on your list, so if you only want a small force, you might never use is, but read through your codex and you might find you like it. Battle forces (especially on ebay, or from chaosmailorder.com) are one of the cheapest ways to get a nice force. With two battle forces you should be well on your way to completing your list, for less than $150.

because farsight's bodyguard gives you a bucket load of crisis suits and 3 empty elite slots you can fill them with the stealth suits. I would tell you to accompany all stealth suits with the gun drones and there by make the best use of the models in the battle force.

To bad Stealth suits are only 0-1 in the Farsight Enclave, just like all your Heavy Support.

The only things not limited (aside from FOC) are Crisis Suits, Fire Warriors, Gun Drone Squads, and Pirahna.

Okay the Tau battleforce is still a good starting point for your farsight army.

You get the stealth suit squad, which you can choose to use
The Firewarriors and the Devilfish are unrestricted.
The gun drones again, no restriction
Gain a crisis suit.

As far as i am aware though, the Kroot squad cant be used in a farsight army?

From there you can expand into more firewarrior squads and more crisis suits.

Now for me I would go with a broadside unit for your support as that has more of a farsight feel to me, i.e. use of a lot of battlesuits and infantry.

You're correct. They can't be (along with Vespids either iirc).

As for what to buy next... the Sky Ray box is on of the best values you can get for your money.

Not only will it come with the Sky Ray parts, but also the Hammer Head parts (which can perfectly suit your army at the size it's at). The Sky Ray stuff is good for kit bashing some stuff. Make the Hammer Head modular and you can use it to fill whatever gap in the list you need to.

Thanks enderwiggin wasnt sure if my memory was working then and I agree about the Skyray box set, Its definately a good grab for most things. Although for aesthetics and fluff I would go with broadsides myself. But the Skyray/Hammerhead modular turret would probably work out better.

I am diggin' all the ideas.

So I think $150-$225 will get me a comfortable 1850pt army (Excluding buying the Catachan and the Tua Torso)

You guys are way way more helpfull then I have gotten trying out Dakka and Heresy too many people get lost in the shuffle.

Unfortunately we also have to help with bad news at times.

Are you aware that Chapter Approved is no longer legal? Unless your Tournament organizer says otherwise you can't technically use Gue'vesa.

In friendly game... I say stuff it and use them anyways. Your opponents shouldn't mind if they're good sports about playing the game (since the Gue'vesa are not some game breaking unit by any means).

Well, sorry for that bit of bad news, but the army looks like it's shaping up. Feel free to ask if anything else pops up.
