Default What's in the box? Devilfish, crisis suits

I'm new to this board, and the Tau. It's been a long while since I was playing 40k, but I decided I'd give it a shot again, and the striking and unique look to the Tau drew me to them.

I'm favoring mobilized Tau, and I like me some Warfish. Now the question is: In the devilfish box, do you get the means to make the SMS pods? Are they only available in the Skyray box and/or hammerhead? Can you make a regular devilfish out of a skyray set?

Essentially, I wanna have 2, but ideally 3 'fish with SMS pods, and I'm frankly trying to find the cheapest way to get them

Now my second question pertains to the Crisis suit models, particularly the Forgeworld ones... Do you get the same assortment of weapons that you get with the GW suits? I think they're quite a bit cooler looking, personally, but I wanna know exactly what I'm getting before I drop a lot of money on the suits and the shipment, y'know?

Thanks for the help, in advance.

The only way to get the SMS/burst cannon drones is the hammerhead or skyray box set. The skyray box also comes with the hammerhead weapons sprue in addition to the skyray turret, so really you can make any of the three with just the skyray box. The skyray box is the best deal because it only costs $5 more than the devilfish and comes with all the extra parts.

The reason why the hammerhead weapons sprue comes in the skyray box is because there's a burst cannon, the drones obviously, and another part that goes on the chin turret that you need to build the skyray, and they didn't bother recutting it or making a new sprue altogether so they just throw all of them in the skyray box. I'm not sure but I don't think the skyray box comes with gun drones. I think it does, but even if it doesn't you should have plenty of them lying around anyway from other box sets.

The Forge World crisis suits come with the same plastic crisis suit sprue the GW kit does, plus the resin parts.

thanks for the info, that helps immensely.

A rules question now: Say I equip my shas'o/el with a twin linked plasma rifle and a missile pod, as well as the multitracker. In a single turn can I fire both the tl plasma AND the missile pod? Or am I limited to one or the other?

I'm not sure, I think you can still fire both since a twin-linked weapon doesn't count as two separate weapons. I'm not really a rules expert though. :P

Yes, the TL PR (TL meaning Twin-Linked and PR for Plasma Rifle) counts as 1 weapon even though it takes up two Hard Points.

On a Side note a Crisis only has 3 Hardpoints, 2 being taken up by the TLPR and one by the MP you would have to have a 'Ui Team Leader or Better to be able to take a HWMT(Hardwired) as you dont have another Hardpoint left for the MT

Hammerhead and Sky Ray boxes are not the only means to get SMS. You can also buy the separate Hammerhead Weapons set. It allows a full upgrade of a Devilfish to Hammerhead.

But hammerhead weapons are £7.

Yes, of course. If you do not have the chassis yet, I would go for the Sky Ray (Devilfish+Hammerhead+Sky Ray sprues all in one box). If you already have the Devilfish, I would go for the Hammerhead weapons sprue alone.

The last option is a bitz shop, but I have not yet seen SMS sold separately.

You can also make your own, using Crisis Missile Pods, if you have enough unused. Use a Drone disc and two Missile Pods.
