Default Power Tau Armies

Does anyone have any ideas for powerful Tau armies that can take on all enemies and hope to prevail?

Do you have a specific opponent in mind or are you talking about a Tournament/All comers army?

Do you mean powerful compared to normal tau lists, or powerful in comparison to other races powerful lists. If its the second im afraid your going to be dissapointed as tau just cant hit the power levels that other races can. We can make really powefull Anti tank armys and quite powerfull anti swarm lists, we can make decent balanced lists and generally struggle against massed heavy infantry.

yeah, there really isn't anything power gamey about Tau. They just weren't designed for power gaming. They're much more balanced leaning toward underpowered considering the number of weak and underpowered units that are in our book as compared to other books.

You can definitely get a good game in. But as far as expecting them to really power game then there's nothing really to go on. However, we do have a huge number of startlingly effective anti-tank weapons. If your opponent decides to run a tank company then we can really ruin their day. However, this is pretty rare.

Truely spoken my friend. With Crisis suits being essentially invisible when using jump shoot jump, the inassailable fish of fury, and hammerheads that could move 12" and fire all weapons were could be pretty power gamey. However, literally all of these things are gone now... :'(

I'm thinking of tournament style take on everyone.
e.g.
6 squads 12 fire warriors
3 squads 1 broadisde
1 shas'el with flamer+fusion blaster
less than 1000 points

I run small squads of fire warriors in a moderately upgraded transport and then I run as many crisis suits, stealth suits and hammerheads as I can fit in whatever points are left. The devilfish is an excellent objective grabber and very survivable in kill points. I usually run 3. But then I just take whatever crisis configs I think I'll need for the army I'm going up against, or if it's a hordey army then I'll max out on stealth suits. It's usually pretty effective.

I'm sorry to say this is a bad list of tournement.

It is mostly a static list...with the new running rules static will get you killed. You need mobility. So you need to consider Hybrid or mech.

Markerlight. A most in tournement.

Spamming on troop like this, makes you vulnerable. Either got 6 team of 6 and use the point for more anti tank, anti-MEQ and anti-horde toys. or do 2 maybe 3 teams of 8-12. More then that and you take away much required points elsewhere.

What I would recommanded for 1000 point tourney list.

'El Helios suit.
2 Xv-8 Helios
2 XV-8 Deathrain or firestorm
3 teams of 8 fire warrior
1 devilfish
4-6 pathfinder with devilfish (to be used by fire warrior)
2 broadsides or 1 hammerhead with burst cannon.

This is a bit more rounded.

I know what you mean Boneguard. Maybe my idea is a little static and against large horde armies would be trampled in combat.

I fergot all about running in 5th edition.
Maybe it should be:
6* 6 fire warriors.
Shas'el
3 broadsides
Pathfinders with develfish for aiding transport.

I like your idea as well.
