Default Failsafe?

how exactly do you get the failsafe detonator to go off without killing the unit carrying it? lots of drones, cause you have to be in CC and loose right?

You need a multi suit team and the carrier must be amongst the dead...which is not as easy now, with the way the wound system work...short of instant kill...to many variables.

And yes, you most be the loser of the assault phase.

I thought he had to live? So you basically just have to lose the close combat and have have the guy die? That's it? ..... I might be including a failsafe in my next game. oh and does it still work if the entire unit is killed outright, I was thinking of using a 2 suit team of TL flamers to drop in, flame, and blow up.

No, the model using it must be alive to use it.

Oh, and if the other members of the unit fall back far enough they should be ok.

If you are running Farsight and the Seven Samurai, I would go as far as to say its an essential bit of Kit. You have alot of points tied up in that unit, if you get assualted/assualt and lose, then fail your break test - your entire unit could be cut down! Failsafe Detonater negates the chances of this - The rest of your unit gets to fall back and hopefully regroup! - The Bodyguard carrying the detonater stays in place and self destructs (hopefully taking your opponents with him). - Essential to a Farsight unit.

And yes, Mr X is right - The bearer has to be alive, basically he sacrifices himself so the rest of his unit can escape from the enemy if you lose the assualt and fail your break test
