i just started and i have around 2,000 points already and i was wondering what to get next
i am mostly mech .

well you'll have to give a list of what you've already got if you want advice on where to go next.

But if you've got 2000 pts of 100% mech Tau id say get Kroot... and lots of them! >

Well firstly welcome to the forums! Have a good time!

Secondly if you could give us a list of all that you have it would be very useful!

And finally, to try and answer your question, there is really only point in collecting more than 2000pts if you can guarentee yourself big 2000pt+ games. The limit in most tornumnets is 1500, and GT's *are 2000 (im not sure about this but i have been told thats true). At your local GW you might have people with large armies to paly, or maybe some of your firends.

so what kind of competition would you have at over 2000points?

If you do decide to go on then i suggest collecting 2500points, in the rule book this constitutes a full detatchment of an army...and would be a complete Tau cadre (well a lsightly large one!).

How about posting up an army list sometime so we can help you decide what you may want in 2500pts?

what a complete Tau cadre (well a lsightly large one!) consist of ?

you mean in real life? Well its hard to say, remember 40k and all the GW games are scaled down...one squad of fire warriors representing 10 or 100 squads really if you want to think of things in the grand scheme of a whole 'army' with thousands and millions of men.

ok not in real life in the game ?
