Plasma Rifles, Ion Heads, Rail Rifles, and markerlights to take away cover

That's one approch.

But because of TLOS and Cover save a healthy mix of:

Missile pod, burst cannon, AFP, Cyclic Ion blaster and Ionhead is becoming somewhat more popular. The idea is to cause a massive amount of armour save, they are bound to fail a few.

I really hate relying on armor saves, it's just not a safe way to do war, Good AP and stripping of cover saves is IMO a lot better.

Against Marines in 1000 points, I would take a Centurion with 2 Helio bodyguards. They operate close enough to the enemy that TLOS shouldn't be a problem. Build the rest of your army normally and you should be good. A good massive amount of damage causing unit is the following.
2 Firestorms + 1 Deathrain 'vre (3rd hard point being an AFP). At 18 inches away, it puts out 6 S5 shots, 6 S7 shots (2 of which are twin linked), and 1 S5 large blast.
Even if the marines get a cover save, it should kill (assuming 5 are covered by the large blast) 3 each turn, a decent amount when you take into account the fact that you are out of range of the enemy weapons (18" range of burst cannon + 6" move > 12" rapid fire range + 6" move) unless they choose to stand still.

You still wanna make sure that you take at least 1 or 2 railguns. If you dont then you could find yourself dealing with a landraider and not having anything to kill it with. Similarly, you can take some fusion blasters instead, but you'd have to be carefull because you'd get really REALLY close to use them.

Fusion blasters are still a good idea. They give you a great deal of instant death capability against their characters.

personally I'd go with a ion head and a unit or two of broadsides.

Then just mass the firepower with the firewarriors.

If they have terminators that aren't jumping down your broadsides you can clean em out pretty handily with said broadsides.

Crisis suits with PRs of course like they have said.

WTF is a "centurion"?

I'm also forced to assume you have some HWMT's hidden in there for some of those guys right?

Anyways, I suggest X2 Ionheads some TA/A.S.S. XV88's a core of Firewarriors and maybe pathfinders (if they can be squeezed in).
Suits should probably be Firestorms (from the math it seems the best right now for BS3), but TA + TL PR's are popular as well.

Shas'el Aurora for a leader, though Helios suits are nice as well.

Aurora+ El with HW-Multi tracker = 100 points = centurion

and yes, on the Helios (actually, Helio+'s) and deathrain with the AFP, the multi trackers are hard wired.

So that's your nick for the Aurora?
It's somewhat counter productive to call a well-known configuration something different when advising...
