Default harlequin allies for farsight?

I was scanning army builder for my upcoming 1000 point game today, figured it was a good size to try out farsight - and noticed they have the option to include harlequin allies?

Can anyone shed some light on this? or is this an army builder glitch. I had no idea they could join up.

i don't have army builder...but i do have a tau codex and i know what farsight armies can and can't take. This must be a glitch as it would otherwise either be in the codex or on a FAQ somewhere...

I figured it out. Harlequins can deploy like grey knights if chaos is your enemy, in the harlequin codex it says that you can take one unit from the army list if fighting chaos.

No glitch, but a partial mistake in legality. *The Herlequin Codex is still experimental, and the Tau Codex has no reference to them since the Tau predate Harlequins.

The Harli experimental .pdf codex states that any army other than Chaos, when fighting against Chaos may include Harlequin allies. *The Farsight restrictions have no bearing on the inclusion of Harlequin fighters, but the fact that the Harlequins are only usable against Chaos does, not to mention some oppenents may object to non-official rules being included, much like Imperial Armour.

well you learn something new everyday! Thanks for telling me that, quite an interesting (if trivial!) fact to know!

No problem at all, though I must say that I am shocked that someone with the prestiege of 42 doesn't know the Harlequin rules... perhaps it was simply my lack of a life that led me to memorise them, however. ;D

The Harlequin rules predate the Tau rules, not the other way around. The reason the Tau dex does not mention them is because it really isn't an important point and will be used by very few people (also the reason it is not included in any other dex).

So yes you can use one unit when facing chaos if your opponent agrees. Harlequins are probably the most under-powered things in the game, still in an army that lacks decent close combat troops this can be a big help, *which could lead to your opponent saying 'no'. Despite the under-powered nature of most Harlequin units.

EDIT: What is your battleing record 42?

So is the inclusion only on permission of your opponent? Expecting to face a tau army and actually turning up to find a band of brightly coloured eldar would be a major shock, up there with some of the good 'look at the expression on the opponenets face' moments...!

(well bear in mind i have only been playing warhammer of any kind for a year and a half! But still...its impressive! I don't like to brag though.)

You have to be very careful using Army Builder, too. *Old versions of armies have a way of building up. *Just look at the Arbites list.
