This question came up in a game about a week ago when my failboat pathfinder team was trying to light up a squad of SM through a forest. He said he got cover saves from their shooting, and I said no, since I'm not even really shooting at him. Our game store guy gave me the benefit of the doubt, as there weren't any wounds being inflicted from laser pointers...

...but now I wonder, maybe he could've gotten saves? Like to represent his guys ducking behind trees to avoid my markerlights or something?

Nope. Saves are made against wounds. Markerlights don't cause wounds, so you can't make saves against them. It's that simple.

indeed. Nothing can cover themselves from a laser pointer. Ever try doing it to your teacher?

No, you really can't see it. You're not going to get any kind of save. In my mind the Ballistic Skill represents it hitting cover. The laser dosen't hurt you so you can't make an armor or in. save. The fact it has a 50% chance of missing represents the chance of the markerlight hitting any cover between the pathfinder and the victim.

Pathfinder puts a markerlight on enemy guardsmen.
Guardsmen freaks out and ducks.
Pathfinder now marks what NOT to hit.

Thats the way I always thought of it, it may help to clarify for others

. Its gathering information on the target, be it positive or negative in terms of a target.

No ones going to duck from a markerlight as mostlikely it's not visible laser, more like an advanced infrared targeting device.

I say you can't get Cover Save from Markerlight but to balanced it out, Pathfinders can only hit half the time e.g. stick with BS3.
