The question is wrong. No army composition grants you an auto-win. Someone who fielded 9 BS can probably tell you how they performed, and maybe he even won because of them (then again, maybe he lost because of them).

Nevertheless, 9 Broadsides sure sound intimidating, but they tie up a lot of points, and are very vulnerable to flanking units. Furthermore, with the prevalence of cover saves in 5th Edition, you'd need Pathfinders as well, to ensure their peak performance.

Cheers,
-Bone

I run 9 Broadsides on a regular basis. I give them a targeting array so that they never miss (80 points). It's very effective and makes opponents think twice. I've recently started using them VS space marine squads instead of their tanks just to make sure that he can't engage my tau in close combat. This is expensive but it's worth it. They are vulnerable to being flanked but I keep a squad of drones around them to countercharge if I have to, or to simply pin. This gives you way more firepower than 3 tanks but is more expensive. Also this formation can take more hits then 3 tanks, plus they can't get stunned or immobilized. Just make sure to place them somewhere with LoS to most of the table.

This would be really sick! However, i only see it working against a few lists. Rhino rushes and maybe Nidzilla. If you went up against a dedicated fast attack like Blood Angels, you get your ass handed to you.

Plus the way I run my sides, 3 full slots would take well over 900 points

Hope. This is not a plan. This is not a solution. It is reaction.

True, I can see it being really worth it if you face a lot of Tank or monstrous creature (Nidzilla); but against swarm army, it is very likely you'll get slaughtered even with the SMS.

Personally I usually field 3 suits and some sniper drones...against marines I might field 6 to put in my plasma XV-88 along side with my SMS XV-88.

But 9 suits? When you consider that the cheapest formation is worth 657 points, it's a lot of point for something that will attract firepower and is non scoring.

I've used it VS Blood Angels, that why I say to take out the people instead of the tanks.
This army is also accompanied by many firewarriors and suits to deal with hordes.

I would recommend getting some kroot so that if the enemy gets to close your not at a huge risk.

It solely depends on what your opponent is fielding. If its guard or orks then I'd think twice about 9 of them. But against SM or a mech list, then I'd say it would be very interesting to see how it unfolds.

The one thing I've learned about Broadsides is that they can only kill so much with the amount of shots they have. If there are TONS of infantry then they probably won't be able to kill em all before they get charged.

It could work but it would need near perfect deployment with good LoS anywhere and infantry support ready to soak up the hits when needed.

man i would love to field that many broadsides, but i dont have the money, or the heavy slots
as it is, i hope to get about 10 more crisis, 2 more broadsides, 3 more sniper teams, some firewarriors and pathfinders before next years 'ard boyz tournament, i have my work cut out, just wish i could use R'ymr in 'ard Boyz atleast i could proxy him as farsight, might have to find a blade i could stick on and give him, anyone have any ideas?
