Default Tau 2000+ Army with Multiple Paint Schemes

Hello, I am new to the forums and I have a lot of questions.I am rather new to the game, so there is a lot that I do not understand. I will try to keep the thread count to a mininum, so please bear with me.
I have a rather large Tau army in the works. It was originially my wife's army when it was much smaller. I sold my Tyranid army for a lot of reasons but now I am getting back into the game. I acquired a lot more to add to my wife's army, but for the moment it is the only army that we have. I want to make my Tau army two different paint schemes, but I am a little worried about the impact it might have on the game. If my wife takes half of our total army and paints it her own way and I take the other half for myself (No I am not getting divorced...lol), what kinds of implications will this have on the army as a whole?

I ask this, because it would be nice to be able to split this army into two smaller armies and would make it easier to utilize most of our miniatures, since most of the people in out area play 1000 point games. However if I had two different sept paint schemes am I allowed to combine them together into one massive army to use in a larger game? Does a 2500 point army have to be from one sept and with one paint scheme?

Game-wise, There's not going to be any major impact of having two color scheme, just claim that you got two armies merging together for a mission.

Personally, I will probably have 3 differents sets of color for my army (Green+red, Green+blue, Dark green+dark blue) to represent different group/fonction.

Thank you so much! I am very glad that I can do this with our army. I really didn't want to argue with my wife about the color schemes. I am glad to know that they can be of different septs and colors. You say you are going to end up with probably three Septs? Sounds cool!

Nah it's one sept but 3 seperate scheme.

My Honour Guard and body guard will be Green and Red to represent their duty.

My Basic troops will be Light Green and blue

The infiltration unit will be Dark green and dark blue for better hiding potential.

The Tanks...not sure yet.

So a different color scheme is different from a different sept? Can I field two different Septs in a large 2000 point army?

Yes and no.

You got to keep in mind that color scheme tend to represent 2 things: Sept or task/duty.

So for exemple the T'au Sept have an overall color scheme, but also have variation for parades/ceremony, different terrain, etc.

Furthermore the T'au Air Caste would have a different one too.

Think of the USA as a Sept: it has a basic scheme (Sept Color)
Now you have a slightly different scheme depending on which Branch or Corps they are in (Land, Marines, Navy, Airforce), parade and ceremonial uniform has slightly different color, desert wear is differnet from winter or jungle wear but overall it's the same Sept with the same general Scheme.

That's kind of how I understand it,

I am doing my Tau army mostly in the tans and browns and everything but the stealth suits and the pathfinders will be the same. Stealth suits will probably be black and dark brown and the pathfinders will be almost all brown with some tan accents here and there. I do plan to make one of my Devilfish a Pathfinder transport and that will be primarily dark brown with very few tan highlights.

The way I look at it is an army will bring what it needs to win a battle regardless of the paint and or markings displayed.

Sounds like Pretty good advice. As long as my wife gets royal blue somewhere in her paint scheme, I think I will be ok.

I don't think it matters at all, as long as you like it. My tau are painted to match their Devilfish. Sometimes. Mostly I used my tau to experiment with how to paint, and my paint to-do list would choke a goat, so i'm not going to be fixing them any time soon.

Hope. This is not a plan. This is not a solution. It is reaction.
