So you're spending 25 points on your 5 squads, for what it does, it's really good. It can keep a squad from running off the table when it falls below half strength, though it's not like before where the whole squad gets it, but only the Shas'ui/Team Leader, and therefore I would consider beefing up your troops to make them less squishy (Like breaking up that 5th squad into the first 4, or just adding more warriors all together). About the only thing I don't take them on are my HQ squads (If they're running, there's something seriously wrong) and my single man squads.

i ended up changing it to 2 of 12 and 1 of 6, less scoring but they tend to last a bit longer

Heck, you could make that 6-man a 7-man squad with the points you save! :P

Any and all squad sizes. I only ever really take Fire Warriors in units of 10 or 6. But in any case it's important to have a shas'ui with bonding knife so that they're leadership 8 and having that last Fire Warrior on the table can mean the difference between victory and defeat in 5th edition.

I refuse to field a team without a bonding knife. This is for fluff as much as for the ingame effect, just like my refusal to use auxiliaries.

For the record, I field teams of 6 with rifles, a 'ui, and a markerlight. Same principle for my Pathfinders.

I refuse to use bonding now that the knife is wargear, rather than a squad effect. "Well, he's dead... let's go get some khus'ya".

I use Devilfishes!

I never leave home without a bonding knife. In 5th it's a good buy because you can rally under half strength + scoring till the last man. Most of the time I field squads of 10 or 12.

I believe there was an article I read on ATT (Advanced Tau Tactica) about the bonding knife and when to use it. While I distinctly remember that suits almost exclusively should not use them, I cannot recall the specific break even point of effectiveness. In the last edition I wouldn't put them on any unit under 10.

Although, after reading people points on the facts that troops must hold objectives, and to the last man especially; I agree that bonding knives should be for all fire warriors (I am also thinking that Shas'Ui are a good idea as well). I still would not put them on suits however unless the squad size was too huge to make sense otherwise.

funny story actually, i had one guy left in a squad, he lasted the entire game sitting in the open on an objective, he passed the moral tests he had to take, and wasn't bonded (i was strapped for points so i dropped the knife on the small squad that game) he also rapid fired and finished off a daemon prince :P
