Default Your preferred Heavy Support (read post before voting)

You're going to have a game of Warhammer 40K against [insert race here]. You've filled all slots, except for 1 Heavy Support squad. Your opponent however, miscalculated the point limit by enough for you to slip in one fully upgraded HS squad. What would you choose? Or would you prefer to deny him and you the opportunity of having additional points?

If you feel you need to state what you selected below, please also state why, and what type of army you were facing (e.g. infantry, heavy, etc.)

Happy voting ,

Well, it depends really.

If the player is a newbie and he does not have enough models to play with, I will forego the chance of taking a heavy and let him take the heavy support. But if the player is a veteran of 40k, I would say that there will be two actions;

1) Both of us just play with what we have

2) Both of us just take the alloted points for our own use.

That would depend entirely on what heavy support options I'd already chosen, primarily.

Im going to have to say i agree entirely. It's difficult to decide what else to take when you dont know what you already have.

Make it up then. There are so any different combinations, and I don't have time to list them all. Imagine you're fighting a certain race for starters, then add the other necessities before your final HS. But if you truly would like an example, I'd say the other two are a Railgun HH and an Ion Cannon HH. Although, feel free to play with the two HS slots.

If I were playing mainstream Tau, and already have a railhead and an ionhead, I'd take another railhead for the pie plate which even has a use even for marines. Sometimes a 3 man 'side team if against Nidzilla.

But I'm Farsight, so my HS is pretty much set in stone: railhead, skyray, 3man Sides. And I don't feel gimped at all; all 3 are very solid HS choices able to handle anything my suits and S5 shooting can't handle.

In my humble opinion, Your poll/question makes little sense.

You might as well ask "If you were playing against [choose for yourself] opponent, what army would you field?".

All heavy slots in the Tau army are GOOD, and they all have their uses. Instead of asking such a vague question, consider what it is you will be facing, and/or what you already have in your army. Once that is settled, people can come with more constructive feedback.

If I had as many points as I wanted, I would definitely go with three XV88s. I'd already have to hammerheads most likely, and I'm not overly keen on skyrays, but definitely, I would love to take three broadsides. They kill quite nicely whatever they shoot at.

Cheers!

Well odds are if I got 1 Heavy slot free i'll be putting a broadside team, since Ialmost never use tank (but I own 2 though), I always field my sniper drones and I have 2 broadside team.

If this person new what he was doing, I'd just say, "We are playing a 1500pt game, would you mind taking out a unit or two to make the game even?"

But if he couldn't or was newer, then I'd probably let it slide. In that case my choice would be entirely dependent on my opponent's army.
