Default Your thoughts about 3 helios crisis suits HQ in small games

I have a small tournament in my gaming club and wanted to try my new tau army.

My HQ unit is a supper geared out crisis team.
I got the 75 pts commander with plasma rifle and fusion blaster and with him 2 bodyguards that are equipped with the same weapons plus targeting arrays.
The whole squad is protected by 2 shield drones.
The commander got an extra shield generator plus feel no pain.

The problem I see with this unit is it being a high risk unit because of the close proximity it has to be to the enemy to be affective.
On the other hand it coasts around 350 pts which is a lot in a 1500 pts game.

What do you think?

What army are you battling? That cuold be a major point. If you were fighting tyranids, youd be a very dead crisis commander, whilst if you were fighting say... Imperial Guard, youd've hit the jackpot

It's a lot of points, but it's also a lot of anti-TEq. I'd reduce the cost (ditching the bodyguard and instead attaching the Commander to a similarly-equipped Crisis Elites team) or leave it as is but add more shield drones. With that many points in one unit, which triples its effectiveness at < 12", I'd invest in protecting it.

All in all I'd say yes, it is too expensive, but if you give it a bit of markerlight support (you could even downgrade the commander if you had reliable markerlights backing him up) and let rip with a deepstrike with 9 attacks hitting on 2+ and watch your opponents' vehicles/TEqs MELT... I think it's worth it.

Um I guess that's key. If you take an expensive, pimped-out command team, make sure they have the support they need. Pathfinders bring markerlights, to make sure your points are well spent, and a marker beacon. A stealth marker team can keep up with the command team and menace hordes while providing marker support. Unfortunately both these options are also pricey. However, a cheaper version of your command team, plus one of the marker options, will run you ~500 points. For a kickass command team and a strong support element, that's not so bad. Just make sure that the rest of your army is lean beef.

Well Aside from what has already been said about it being an expensive HQ. I would like to add that for a Helios suit you arem issing a very vital piece of hardware: A (HW) multitracker...without it, it is kind of pointless to take 2 weapon.

I'd say go for it. Helios is one of the best crisis configs available. It's very versatile because it can be used to hunt vehicle and for penetrating armor on termintors and marines. It's also good in case you run into someone who uses plague marines because they don't get feel no pain. Just add the hardwired multi-trackers and you'll be good to go.

Great unit, use the exact same set-up fairly often and it hasn't let me down yet. Great thing to do with that unit, jump up to a land raider full of Termies, let your broadsides wreck/blow it up, and then have the HQ massacre the survivors. The best part is that if the rails screw up, you still get to vape the land raider with the fusion blasters.

Three Helios suits... I ended up bringing two in my 1,000 point army because I could add a unit of Pathfinders for the 80-something points a tricked out Helios suit cost. The Devilfish, incidentally, wasn't an issue, as I was going to bring two anyway and it doesn't matter which squad brings it to the table.

I think it'd be more effective to join it to a unit of elite Crisis suits. Of the TL PR + TA sort. They'll be much cheaper and still pretty effective for the points costs.
