Default KROOT KNARLOC RIDERS

has any one use them are they good in battle im thinking of geting some they look very cool
or a KROOT GREAT KNARLOC WITH BOLT THROWER i dont know which would be better in battle they both look good

I think this is not avalible to Tau. Its only avalible to the Kroot Mecinaries.

yea, they look pretty cool, but they generally don't tie in with the kroot mercenary strategy too well, as although their fast, they can't infilitrate, meaning that in most situations no matter how fast they are they won't get into combat as fast as the others.

also, it is absolutely not allowed in the tau army, only in kroot mercenary.

that sucks so you cant use them in tau well i guess im not going to buy them unless i make an all kroot army

I have to admit an all kroot army does sound kind of fun, its just too much of a hit-or-miss army for my liking.

Great Knarlocs are indeed usable in Tau armies (not just Kroot Mercs). They are limited though and require a squad of Kroot as well in the Troops to be taken as a pre-req. Anyhow, they're really cool as they have fieldcraft and all that good stuff the Kroot have and they're not monstrous creatures (which allows them to keep their kroot abilities) and their attacks are rending. They're quite tough and have good strength and a good number of wounds, but they're not super great in combat. A standard marine is better in many respects. However, considering Tau, it's pretty good combat ability. The problem is, they're heavy support, so unless you're low on tanks or xv-88's, the knarlocs may have a hard time finding a place in your army.

I personally love knarlocs, I've simply not had real models (though I played with some a few times with proxies when the experimental rules were available for download from forgeworld--which are now printed so you can't download that anymore).

They cost the same as an ox and are way, way better. They're quite good at taking the attention of your enemy, but really, that's about it (big "shoot me" target).

I know there are some people on the board who have and use them though, just from the showcase, so it would be nice to hear how they do with karnlocs.

Yes Kroot Knarloc Riders are available to the Tau but just like Great Knarlocs they require a squad of Kroot Carnivores to be used, but unlike normal Kroot they operate independently from the Carnivore squad. The Knarlocs themselves turn the Kroot into assault troops though they are a* 0-1 unit. They have two Strength 5 attacks in close combat as well as one Strength 4 attack from the rider.* Just like normal Kroot their save is rather weak, being 6+, and they are still Eaters of the Dead, and thus requiring a leadership check to pursue and overrun their opponents.*

There are several benefits to Knarloc Riders though as they are classed as Cavalry so can Fleet of Foot. In addition, they have the standard Kroot Fieldcraft ability, and thus can take full advantage of woods and jungles, gaining the cover whilst being unaffected by difficult terrain. Their survivability is increased further seeming as they have three wounds and can only be instant killed by a weapon of strength eight or more. Making these guys a really good unit worth taking if you happen to like using Kroot.
