Default Tau seem very Communist to me...

To me the Tau seem to be the ideal socialist society, one in which humanity has never been able to acheive. Does anyone feel this way as well?

Also, is it just me or are the majority of Space Marines who follow the Emporer just as evil as the races that follow Chaos (For example the Exterminatus on Dawn of War initiated by the commander of the blood Ravens)

Long live the Greater Good!

Tau are indeed Communist. However, whilst this is far superior to Capitalism, the Imperium's facist xenophobia is a much more practical outlook. After all, trying to befriend Chaos will only end in ruin...

Their social structure is often compared to that of feudal Japan. It emphasizes a devotion to duty and one's superiors (The Greater Good as represented by the Ethereals). We don't have a good sense about how their economy works. They must have some form of trade, but definitely following a socialist model. It's not really communism in the Eastern European sense as far as we know, as the Tau caste system would run counter to those ideals.

They seem communist at first glance, via the ideas of it, not the application. However, there is a different system that better describes them. We actually talked about this recently in another thread, which I invite you to check out here.

The Greater Good is the Tau Empire, and utilitarianism is the system they use to make it flourish.

Or you could say Tau isn't based completely on an ideology or real word system, I wouldn't like to anyway. There are subtle differences althought it's hard to justify them being unique when they were created by GW. I'll just bide my time, when aliens visit they can give some ideas for a really good race, until then I'll stick with Tau being a mix.

I totally agree that the Imperial force's "Space Marines" are evil. I was going to play the SMurfs but I read the main rule book, the parts about the historys of the races, and decided to go Tau instead.

The fact is the tau aren't communists. In some ways they are but in some ways they aren't. for example one of the main purposes of a communist society is to try to break down the class system. What I mean by his is that Carl Marx (creator of Communist) wrote in his book the communist manifesto that their will be no upper or lower class. Fact is though is that their is an etheral caste which is seen as higher above the other castes. In my opinion the Tau society has a socialist government.

I also agree and actually to a bit more of an extreme level. I believe that the Imperium is actually more of an evil army than good he res why

The Imperium frequently commit acts of genocide (or cleansing) on new worlds as apposed to chaos which only do black crusades once every thousand year

The imperium also harass greatly peace loving races like the tau all to try to please the false emperor

The emperor's validity is null in this discussion; his status in Human society is.* Recall the crusades, when washed, civilized, learned peoples were decimated by unclean and comparitively barbaric Christians who claimed to be acting in the name of God.* The zealous activity of the Imperium and their devotion to the God Emperor is comperable to the church-dominated setting of the middle ages, even to the denial of advancement and acceptance of such wisdom as the Earth orbiting the Sun.
The difference is that wether or not God did or does have the world-leveling power that he was attributed in the middle ages, for all his exaulted glory the Emperor of 40k has the same level of ability as Terri Schivo.
