I'm pretty sure there was some form of correction to this in the old FAQ, but I can't find it anymore now that all the 5th edition FAQs have replaced the old 4th edition ones.
The description of the pulse carbine says: any unit suffering at least one wound from pulse carbine fire must test for pinning. This explanation goes against the usual pinning rules in a way or two. My question is, is it possible for carbines to wound a lone multiple wound model and cause it to test for pinning? |

To the best of my knowledge, and someone will correct me if I'm wrong, the new rules say wounds caused, not casualties. So if thats the case, then causing a wound on a multiwound figure can cause pinning.

Page 31 of the current book specifies "unsaved wounds". It also says "from a pinning weapon", which has produced some debate over how many checks a unit will take from a unit full of pinning fire. Some have argued, and it would be nice if they won the argument, that 3 unsaved wounds from a squad of pulse carbines means 3 pinning checks.

Problem is, why pin something when you can kill it outright? It's only better to pin something a same sized squad of rifles can't kill.
Needs mathammer comparison. :P

We can't kill marines with one salvo...With all carbines we might snag 3-4 tests though.
It might work for defensive gun drone nests, to protect weaker units or set them up for massed firepower (XV88's with MT and Plasma rifles or Helios, etc.) traps so that we can safely apply better firepower. It'll help Sniperdrones out quite a bit I would imagine.

I've always read the rule as A pinning test for A weapon, so for example if a large blast killed 5 models that 1 test because it was one weapon, where as a squad full of pinning weapons (Pulse Carbines for example) and it killed 5 men then becuase 5 weapons caused those wounds then 5 tests would be taken.
What if that something is a 10 man squad of the new Vet Assult Marines? i doubt a 12 man squad could kill it. But theres a strong chance of pinning it so you can ignor it for the rest of that turn to shoot other more juice opponents. and/or move stuff away from the potentional striking range. |

I see that we seem to be accepting the one wound = one test reading of RAW. Is this now the norm?
