Default Tau Armour

Hi i was wondering, how do the Tau get their tanks to the battle field? I know that the troops and battle suits use orca class dropships. If anyone has any pictures of the tanks transport could they post the link please. Cheers.

You mean "Perform Eldar tactics better than Eldar", right? :P
Not unless the Eldar have an obscure Warrior Aspect that revolves around the complete mastery of the common light bulb.

I think it is pretty much just the Manta drop, although there may be a larger class of orbital lander more along the lines of what the Imperial Guard uses. Since the Manta can carry four at a time, it wouldn't take a pair of them very long to shuttle in a sizeable force.

I always imagined hammerheads and such being dropped in with some sort of retro-thrusters (I think the devilfish's fluff says that they're pressurized and sealed - hence the no firepoints). /shrug

it is indeed part of the devilfish fluff...but it is not Spaceflight worthy...something has to shuttle it.

Agreed with Boneguard, but a Starship should be able to enter in very low orbit and drop a pressurized unit into the upper atmosphere.

While the manta is interplantary capable, I don't think the Tau use it for large scale invasions other then what the Marines use drop pods for. To get troops to the surface from the carrier ship above.

No. What I am saying is that my Air Support has lots of Ground Cadre.

If a Land Raider dies to a rail gun, and no one was around to see it, does the kill point still exist?

As far as I understood the reading I've done, Mantas are used as planetary assault landers, and are armed & armored so they can clear a drop site, unload their passengers to secure it, and either support them, holding it for other (less armored) ships to unload , or for the ground forces to hold it, allowing the Manta to turn into a ferry.

But yah. I thought Mantas were used as sub-orbital assault shuttles (transporting units from point X to Point Y) or as landing crafts...

Tau tanks can be dropped at altitude and use their main engines to slow their descent, but I doubt this is the main way of getting them to the surface - its dangerous, and they cannot even think about fighting when doing it.

Most likely Manta's do the trick in a few drops, although considering the amount of manta's carried - a typical custodian can carry between 8 and 12 Mantas (extrapolated from Gothic) which equates to 48 tanks a time.

Careful how you extrapolate from Gothic.
A Custodian has a launch capacity of 8. This does not mean it can only carry 8. More likely it carries a full complement of 48 or maybe even 60. Remember that a Custodian is about 5-6km Long and 7-8km wide, and that it has cyclopean launch bays compared to equivalent Imperial or Eldar vessels.
