Default The Eldar, one of Tau's greatest enemies?

Hey, yesutday i play a good friendly 2v2 game (non-apoc) of just 1500 points per player, and the teams ended up being Choas and Tau (my friend and I) vs SM and Eldar.
now my friend didn't do much, and we did lose, as the 36" movement range of the eldar's tanks allowed him to capture most objectives, but that seems to be it. The Eldar's mobility allows them to easily get by my defense and usually get into CC, is there a method to combat this?

Thanks in advance

36"?! On what planet can an vehicle in 40k move 36"? I may be misunderstanding something about the eldar but I figure it was either a typo or a misunderstanding. But if your friend was moving his vehicles 36" then I thin he needs to re-read the main rulebook and his codex. I'm pretty positive that's not possible.

yea, he had Wave Serpents i believe, and he said that normally he can move 24", and 12" more with an upgrade, which i forget the name of.

They're fast right?

24" move + Star engines.

Albeit in a straight line.

I check and they can get indeed a 12" extra move in the shooting phase if they go straigth...interesting and annoying.

Well he was doing the whole 36" move in one go, not 24 then 12, but either way, how could i possibly defend against that, i could try to mount as much as possible, but their tanks are faster then any of ours.

Then you got cheated..in part.

Granted it is hard ot beat so...unless you enjoy a metric ton of XV-88 to deal with Vehicule, but not unduable.

I've fought against a friend using a lot of wave serpents (5 in total - 3 with dire avenger squads, 1 with banshees, 1 with fire dragons). He generally used them to drop troops off at objectives, and then tried a lot of ramming/tank shocking. I managed to pass all my tank shock dodge rolls, and somehow managed a lot of my leadership tests while tank shocked, so this wasn't a big problem. I ended up at 2 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, and those losses were INSANELY close (one due to things going to turn 7) and some of them were after he retooled his list specifically to combat my tau list.

You haven't really elaborated on what problems you had. Since they can't assault after disembarking, you do get a turn in which to shoot the hell out of them and force a fallback test. Concentrate on annihilating infantry and leaving the wave serpents alone once they are empty, imo. If they just move around and then swoop in on the last turn, do your own maneuvering. A squad of fire warriors firing into their back armor in rapid fire range is probably going to shake things up a bit.
