Default Help with Bodyguard configuration.

Well you might remember my weird idea for a weaponless Support HQ: http://forums.tauonline.org/index.php?topic=69311.30 After consideration, I was thinking that sometimes it might be worth it to give his bodyguards to extend his lifespan...especially against CC army or Instantkill weapon.

Now for these bodyguard, I'm looking for:
- A different configuration then what I currently have;
- Something perceived as generally non-threatning by my opponent;
- But that would hel provide some punch to the Support HQ if needed.

So I was considering:
-(TL)-Flamer, SG, (maybe TA) Really short range, not very threatning except in CC.
-Sunforge (TL-FB) Excellent penetration, but short range.
-Bladestorm (PR+BC) High fire-rate, mostly weak AP, effective range of 12".
-Stormsurge (FB+BC) Same as above, but with better penetration and lower fire rate
-Hurricane (TL-BC) High fire rate, weak ap, effective range of 18"

And currently I have these:
-Commander Sunfire (PR+MP+FB)
with 2 bodyguard Fireknife(S) (PR+MP+AFP/CIB)
-1 full Deathtrain squad (TL-MP)
-1 full Burning eye squad (TL-PR)
-1 full Helios squad (PR+FB)
-1 full Firestorm squad (MP+BC)

So what do you think would make a good configuration for these bodyguards?

At a glance, I would suggest either the Bladestorm or Stormsurge. They seem farily competent at mopping up whatever comes close, without really being threatening to everything else. Just put a shield generator on even a flamer on them and you have what you want.

I was planning to give them a Shield generator, since the HQ XV-84 got 1.

I could even go for one of both (a Bladestorm and Stormsurge) to maximize the wound allocation >

How about the other...what is your 2¢ on this?

I wouldn't go for the sunforge or the TL flamer dude.

The hurricane might work, but the same as Korill: Blade storm and stormsurge

Ok So not Tl fusion blaster or flamers...could be for the best, with my friend we get too many bad jokes when somoene brings in a flamer.

So the bladestorm and stormsurge seems to be the most popular configuration...and maybe the Hurricane one too.

So does everyone agree with Korill and Scar face or do I have a voice for a different configuration?

in the six or seven games i've played so far- his config has been perfection:

2 bodyguard- both with twin linked missile pods and a shield generator, one has a hard wired drone controller with 2 gun drones.

Now- in the new addition almost everyone has a cover save, so the missiles are essentially a easy-to-wound addition with the potential for light vehicle destruction. The Shield generators make them almost impossible to kill along with the fact that they are both different models and you can direct wounds where you like them under the new rules.

The gun drones are essentially just extra wounds- but they add a little spark at the end of a shooting phase.

I have been mopping the floor with this though- a got charged by a tyranid hive tyrant and beat him back in close combat since he was unable to kill any of my guys except the drones.

Thats what I prefer out of your list.

I actually take:

Shas'o commander, TL plasma rifle, shield generator.
Shas'vre bodyguard, TL missile pod, AFP, HW multi-tracker.
Shas'vre bodyguard, CIB, shield generator, gun drone.

that's a poor poor choice- why TL plasma rifles for you commander, give him the special issue weapons

Let's try nopt ot derail this too quickly.

So far I got a 2 votes for for the Plasma and burst or the Fusion and burst and 1 vote for the Twin burst.

Twin fusion and twin flamer 1 vote against.

Deathrain is a nice configuration but since I already have a full elite squad of them, I rather have something different, but it is indeed a sweet config.

The Special issue weapons are already on the bodyguards of my main HQ so can't reuse them.

So if we look back at the configs I'm leaning towards
-(TL)-Flamer, SG, (maybe TA)
-Sunforge (TL-FB)
-Bladestorm (PR+BC)
-Stormsurge (FB+BC)
-Hurricane (TL-BC)

And keeping in mind the Fireknife+special issue(bodyguard), deathrain, Burning eyes, helios and firestorm are already used. what do you think would be a good , not too threathning (unless you come too close) configuration for the bodyguard of my support HQ?

So far Bladestorm and stormsurge seems ot be winning.
