Default Crisis suit types.

I'm VERY new to tau.

Just wondering what crisis suit types you take. I prefer Shas'ui myself but when I look and review army lists, everyone seems to take Shas'el or Shas'vre.

The reasons that I thought of.

Advantage: Great BS, large amount of wounds.

Disadvantage: Wounds easily taken with instant death.

Advantage: Good BS, "in the middle" type.

Disadvantage: Again instant death but not quite as bad.

Advantage: Cheap with still two wounds, ID not a problem.

Disadvantage: Mediocre BS.

Shas'vre: (can't really see the point.)

Advantage: Cheap- (ish)

Disadvantage: Mediocre BS, 1 wound(!).

If you feel you need to disagree with my opinions, please feel free to post...

your list is a bit wrong
+BS 5 and 4 wounds
-instant death and pricey
+BS 4 3 wounds cheap commander when compared to the 'o
-instant death again
-when compared to the ui that's the only advantage and its pricey for just wargear access
-BS 3

both the vre and the ui have 2 wounds

as far as my choice since my army is usually vehicle mech i want cheap suits so i usually take an 'El commander and a few TL flamer and TL MP TA ui' suits
But Isn't it funny to think that guard might be able to copy eldar tactics slightly?
You mean "Perform Eldar tactics better than Eldar", right? :P
Not unless the Eldar have an obscure Warrior Aspect that revolves around the complete mastery of the common light bulb.

I personally don't like to take crisis suits as thier expensive, and can go down far to easily if you do not find a mannar to hide them, or if your caught off guard. I take a shas o cammander (manditory) hide him in a stealth team and deepstike behind enemy lines and cause no end of trouble to my opponent. Then I spend the rest of my points on devil fish equipped firewarriorsand hammerheads (mech) and maybe some piranahs or drones.
"They shall be my finest Cannon Fodder, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I will mold them and in the furnace of war they will become cracked and broken. They will be of tissue paper and whimpy muscle. In tissue paper armor I clad them and with the mightiest flashlights they will be armed. They will be touched by every sort of plauge or disease to help further make them unhappy, all sickness will blight them. They will have almost no tactics, strategies, but lots of machines so that they can atleast stand up to a foe in battle. They are my tar pit against the Terror. They are the bulk of Humanity. They are my Imperial Guard and they will know much fear!"

A fortress circumvented ceases to be an obstacle. A fortress destroyed ceases to be a threat. Do not forget the difference.

I Play a Mech Tau Suit Army, which includes 8 Shasui w/ MP, BC, MT
the other 4 are tank/heavy infantry hunters, so by default i say XV8s

Yeah, I was thinking about an all battlesuit army, but I can't seem to make an effective list.
Plus it's very expensive. (the rapid insertion force box should work!)

Shas'els seem the best point for point wise, but is a Shas'vre worth taking for wargear.

i take shas'o and teamleader 'ui but they weren't included so i had to vote for plain ole 'ui. the reason i take the 'o is i've grown attached to my character that i made up in the 'oh must give everything to commander' days lol 170-200 pts depending on shield drones... and he never seems to get insta gib... thank god for shield drones n gens!

It's very situational. Unless I'm playing a tourney, I switch up lists every time to suit my opponent.

Sometimes I like to have a tank hunting, drone bloated Shas'o with all the bells and whistles. Sometimes I take an 'el with two 'vre bodyguards for an elite crisis squad, sometimes I'm short on points and can only afford to bring an 'el with two weapons and a multi-tracker. I always bring at least one 3-man 'ui team though.

Anyway, Crisis suits are usually the core of my army (i play a mech-hybrid that usually brings a minimum of fire warriors, and when I bring them, I just use 'em for bait.) and I build around as many of them as I can afford to bring in whatever configurations seem most effective in the situation.

Its not which suits you pick, its how you equip them. And remember, your HQ slots can consist of (expensive) Shas'o, Shas'el, and Shas'vre rank suits, while your Elite slots consist of Shas'vre and Shas'ui suits.
