Default Did Pulse Carbines Get Worse in 5e?

I've been playing Tau on and off for half a year now(500-1000pt range) and have never used pulse rifles. I love firewarriors with pulse carbines too much. However it seems that they've taken a big hit mainly because of run. The game with Carbines was to always stay 14-18" or so away and essentially kite squads. Drones have jump jets so they seem to do alright still at staying just out of range. But now with units running I seem to get 1 turn of shooting in before I have to run myself to stay out of charge distance.

It also seems to me that Pulse rifles have gotten better because of True LoS. My pulse carbines favored heavy terrain and it worked out well for them. But now it seems that in anything but cityfight pulse rifles can see just as much from a static position.

I already knew that FWs with carbines were generally a subpar choice when weighed up against pulse rifles but I used to be able to make it work. Now it seems I should start changing over at least some of my squads to rifles :-\ Any insight?

Yes it is a little harder to kite with them, but at the same time, it's easier to get them into range. Carbine warriors now are great for shooting then charging the last bits of troop stubbornly sitting on an objective. Plus a Tau unit charging and winning almost always knocks an opponent off-balance; Great for psychological warfare. >

Yeah, I would much prefer the 30" range to get in a bunch more shots then any pinning :P

I honestly dont see much difference between 4th and 5th ed for the carbines, theres pretty much the same :P

in 4th the enemy would take longer to get to you (or never if you knew what you were doing) because you can move and shoot, but in 5th the enemy can run, and catch you faster

I keep them around for use against melee armies. I put a couple in a squad so I can pin them after their run thruogh the rifle fire.

I guess when you take run into account it's much harder to keep fire warriors away from assaulting units. But then again I never take carbines for my fire warriors. I always take rifles. With true line of sight it's easier to get more shots with the 30" range. That and rapid fire is completely invaluable. Also, considering how many weapons there are that deny your fire warriors their 4+ save it's pretty critical to keep them in cover so that they perform as well as they should. I rely on my drones for carbine shots.

Soz but just to make sure I got it, when the enemy unit fails the pinning test, they cant move in their next turn right? Can they shoot or assault?

No. When you're pinned you cant shoot, assault or move. You cant do anything.
