Default Pathfinders in General

I hear a lot about pathfinders and they are included in dozens of lists I have seen. However, it seems that from looking at their stats, you can get a lot more for the pts. Lets say I put in a squad of PF+devilfish in an 1850 game instead of a squad of FW+devilfish. What would they be useful for in a hybrid army, and how are they meant to be used?

I love them to death, Ignoring coversaves is a godsent with the sub, and even the Ioncannon (hide from th AP now marine boy! ;D)

and they tote the Seeker Missile, indispensible in some games and very useful in others, plus they look cool

theyre a Utility unit, not a Dakka one, they make playin more fun and make the army more adaptable, I keep a squad of 7 in my 1000pts Concept list.

Right, when a unit is markerlighted it no longer gets coversaves from the weapon that will be targetting it correct?

yup, a real bonun seeing as we cant really make use of Flamers, and a ML Ion is absolutely lethal to marines that thought they were safe in the bushes ;D

4+ saves hiding from the sub in the Ruins? not anymore

Another thing, when pathfinders disembark, aka count as moving, they cannot fire markerlights (heavy weapon) so why not just put a markerlight in each static fw squad? I'm guessing the answer to this is that 4-8 markerlights stand a bigger chance of doing something than 3-4, but then again they are so damned expensive...

the point is the Free game move, before the game they get into position so theyre ML'ing from cover hopefully from the first turn.

that and the fact that one Pf squad sitting on the ground risks less points than 4 FW squads :P

Oh!! Realization has just struck me...the pregame move may include disembarking and the devilfish can act as a sort of escape route in case some charger gets too close. And the 36" markerlight has the range to reach across the board first turn...things are becoming clearer, I might just have to get another DF and some PF's, if only for fun and versatility as mentioned before.
