Default [Batrep] Fast and Dirty- Tau on Tau with Pictures

Batrep for this week is a tau VS tau training fight.
12" deployment
D3+ 2 objectives

A local regular player at out store got himself a tau army second hand and wanted to try it out. one of th store employees made him a fast and dirty list before i got there.

at 2K
my list was testing out the forgeworld gun sentry drop pods in place of a hammerhead(proxied by spray can tops).
2X HQ shas'o
3X elite shas'vre
2X marker light/marker drone 7 man FW squads
2X warfish
2X hammerheads

As allways my vehicles where nearly maxed with wargear.

his list tossed in more bodies but was, as he found to his detriment later, lacking in key pieces of wargear...like bonding knives and any vehicle upgrades of any kind.

.crisis command team with lots of marker drones
.3 man elite crisis team
.broadside team with marker drones
2X hammerheads
2X full firewarrior teams
3X piranha with fussion
2X devilfish

At setup-
my side

His side-

He had first turn, as a smaller army i was able to hide most of my units pretty well and those that he did get shots at, my wargear saved me(disruption pods for the win!) most of the time.

We skip ahead a bit here since i forgot to take pictures, as it stands-

I kept his phirana stunned much of the game or disarmed them. he ran up a fish and dropped FWs on an objective. which promply ran away from it afte taking concentraited fire. as they were not bonded i needed to waste no mare time on that unit. the other unit got shot by hamerheads and suits before being assaulted and decimated. i also managed to keep his hamerheads stunned for most of the game. bewteen 3 crisis suits.

The podding gun sentries were very effective. having plasma, melta and missles dropping in your back field causes a redeployment of asseets away frmt the key battle. he stunned the plasma sentry and made him hide 1 time the entire game. other than that after pouring fire into it it never got touched the rest of the game thanks to the shield generator upgrade.
>

At this point i had lost a few shield drones, fire warriors a podding sentry that went off the table, and 1 fish took an immobilised result(but still in the fight, out of LOS, which really doesn't mater to the SMS),

2 of my shas'vre doubled back and actually assaulted his deepstriking elite suits to keep them from shooting. it took a couple turns but i eventually won combat and overran the unit.

Moving towards turn 5 i started running out to grab objectives myself. my 3 crisis teams with hammerhead support had punched through his right flank. while some judicious shooting with a little extra plasma from a sentry took his command sqquad down to the lone shas'o

the carnage continues. i was actually aiming for his tanks with my sentries thanks to thier special deestrike impact rule but i kept scattering wide. my fusion scattered right next to his shas'o whom i promply melted since he had no invul saave on it(shield drones were already gone).

As the game ended he found himself with no firewarriors left on the table. i had 1 squad holding an objective and another contesting a second.

My dead pile-
2 marker drones
3 shield drones
.gun sentry
7 fire warriors between 2 units

His dead pile-
alot more

after we got done, i helped him rebuild his list a little. placing his fragile marker drones in a stealth team and giving him life saving upgrades like bonding knives and targeting arrays on his vehicles etc...

he had less crisis, more stealth and generally more survivable units

we did a battle against my sisters/allied dark angels army(as i was fighting tau i opted to use my eversore infiltratring assasin. loosing the charge bonus thanks to photon grenade upgrades hurt me a little but he did a number on a FW squad).

and he was doing pretty well up to halfway through the game but being new to tau he let me get to close to him even though i warned him what i was going to do ahead of time.

we were actually almost evenly matched on model count and number of units it this game.

P.S.
currently working on home-made bits versions of the gun sentries. i found them to be a really useful unit, especially in 5th.

Awsome Battle Report! +1 Karma!

I really like the fact that you added pictures to the mix for it really makes the battle report flow smoothly. Also, I hope you didn't mind that I changed your title to indicate that it was a battle report complete with picutres, as this will attract more attention from others and easier to search and find.

Cheers!

neat, how did the sentries work for ya.

The armies seem small for 2,000 pts.

Dude nice Repressors, seriously those look great.

Oh, yeah the Tau... ;D

Good overall composition, I loved the pictures, paintjobs+terrain. I also love seeing Tau in assault so that Crisis battle made me happy I'm glad to hear you came out on top.

My only question: Where are the Kroot?! They'd have had a field day out there.

Shame on him for using a 3man 88' Team, thats where a lot of his points sank into and he could've used it elsewhere. Also, whats with his weird HQ?

As for your list....jeez, you really ought to get some more men in there. Tau vehicles are sturdy enough they only need the Disruption Pod, I can appreciate the Warfishes you've got going there but man oh man thats a lot of points to sink into a Transport. Nice Crisis teams though, I almost always field Duo's or Monats.

Great post m8

who? you mean r'myr? the best HQ for 5th edition?
a suite with BS 5 and a plasma storm bolter and a 3+ invul in CC...oh and did we mention the built in fletchette launchers

ROFLOL
uh no, you obviously have never read my past batreps for 4th edition. i ran tau tank companies-3 HHs and 5 warfish all tooled out. it worked better in 4th but all the upgrades are still a must in 5th(sensor spines and the filter are still worthless).

vehicles are more suseptable to damage now in 5th even if the chart is nicer so my FWs are usually out marking and shooting now, even so i still run a sa'cea list-small elite strike teams and mobility optimised for urban warfare.
i had 39 models he had like 47, look who won.
;D

His second list is a better list with the upgrades and changes and still keeps the same model count.

Awesome battle report. Very nice work with the pictures and all! Not too much else to say besides that. I just appreciate your effort. Thanks for sharing.
