Default which shaper?

i am getting a kroot shaper but im not shure which one is the best (points wise) because the pulse rifle when you move you cant shoot, and the carbine has the pinning and move and shoot, but not the second CC attack.

If you want to take a shaper go for the kroot gun. And here's why. Extra melee attack.

The pulse carbine will probably be useless due to it's short range...often you won't shoot with it. And pinning is so easly avoided.

The pulse rifle looks like a sounds choise, being overall 'better' but if you move you get the same range and no extra attack.

Now, the kroot rifle extra attack always come handy, because 99.9% of the time your kroot will end up in CC (either you moved him into it or your opponent assualted them)...that extra attack can make a difference...

I don't know about you, but in my experience and from what I've seen Kroot rarely get more then 1 turn of shooting before being stuck in assault...so the extra melee is a sounder choise IMO.

i usually go for the kroot rifle, it looks better to me, but other wise i would go for the carbine, its an assault, and the chance to pin is always useful

i would go for the rifle shaper because that way i can roll for the entire squad at one time, and not have to worry about some having different weapon stats

The kroot shaper I see only if you need ld 8 on some kroot otherwise it worthless. A tau gun is not necessary and getting 1 str - AP but - attack in close combat is not really the cost for it. But still even the shaper is a really expensive leadership boost.

I rarely take Kroot Shapers, as i find them overpriced to get an extra point of leadership out of them. But when I do have the points to spend, a Shaper armed with a Kroot Rifle is just fine with me. Doctor Wu sumed it up quite nicely.

When I take Kroot I take a Shaper with a Pulse Rifle, not for any in game effect really but I like to have a little Tau tech in all my units.

I have completely different experience though in that my Kroot almost never get into cc. A few roughly bolter equivalent guns on low toughness models with paper for armor... most people just ignore them. So I infiltrate them on a flank and slip them around to get rear armor shots and harass people who leave them alone. Never actually fought an assault with them though.
