Default The advantage of a Shas'el over a Shas'o

Why does it seem like most of the veteran poster favorite this commander choice? Is it because pretty much if this guy gets wounded you're insta-gibbed? Also, A shas'o would free up a slot for a Position Relay and still have two weapon choices and allow you to hit on a 2+.

Would the 4 bs just be a minescule disadvantage to the 5 bs?

I appreciate your help.

Just depends what you like, you can get a Bs 5 shasel with plasma and missiles for 97, I have one of those, but then I also have a Shaso with plasma, fusion and missiles.

Bs 5 is great, you'll be killing at least one marine a turn most of the time.

Yeah, it really comes down to the difference between ballistic skill 4 and 5. I prefer the Shas'el because they're siginficantly cheaper. I dont even bother giving them targetting arrays because the amount of firepower that they bring isn't anymore than a regular crisis suit. I just like to put my commanders on the table as reasonably as possible and depend on other units for the real killing power.

Just take a targeting array on a shas'el save 15 points. Only take an 'o if you are pallning on using another support system.

seems like with the increased use of positional relay you'd want a higher BS and some longer ranged weapons, because he is going to be so much more static and valuable.
Does that seem like it follows?

might just be me but i have been testing the Air burster one them and with the 5th template rules coming up i'm pretty excited that it can only scatter 2 in. or 1 in. max with LOS.

I like to run either. Shas'o because I can but a CIB, FB, and Msl Pod on him to allow him to engage as many types of target at as many ranges as possible. Shas'el because he's dirt cheap as a BS5 fireknife.

I've been running a Shas'o in all my games over 1000pts. I like not having to take up the extra hard-point in order to up his BS. Though, I run mine as a tank-hunter and have him deep-strike behind the enemy. So the added WS, W and A make him more survivable that way.

And to point out with the ABF; If you take a Shas'o with that and a Targeting Array you'll be doing very well at hitting.

I don't think their use really justifies the cost. The base cost of a Shas'o is three times that of a regular Crisis Suit. The Special Issue wargear is good, but team leaders can take it as well. In close combat, a Shas'O is often just going to take a little longer to die. His better stats aren't going to let him beat what is going to be coming after him. And againt Krak Missiles or better, none of his defensive stats are relevant. I think putting more points into HQ makes sense if you have the points to spare, but the Shas'o always seemed extravagant. And with IC protection going away, he is looking like something of a liability.
