Hi,
I'm confused. I like the idea about O'Shavah's close combat tactics, and I accept his limitations for Kroot, Ethereals and Vespids. What really confuses me is the number of troops/elites/fast attack/heavy support he may have in his army. May he still have six Fire Warrior squads, 3 Heavy Support squads, max Elite and Fast Attack squads? Also, what happens to XV8 Crisis Battlesuits? Thanks, rider_eragon

erm I've not used him but i no you still need +1 firewarrior and you also need +1 crisis suit/team... these remain in the elite. you also still need a +1 commander all the heavies are 0-1 and so are pathfinders and stealth suits... also everyone with access to the armoury get bonding for free... don't think I've missed anything out :-\

Right. His FOC is the same as all Tau lists. But within that, there are a number of units he can only take one of, and a few units he can not take at all.

Arguably he can take human auxiliaries....<whistles>
I know they are not "legal" but every player that takes them, is another gw might see. More support the better. |

It's still unclear. What I want to do is this:
O'Shavah 1+ Commander 3 Crisis Battle Suits OR 3 XV25 Stealthsuits 5 Firewarrior Squads (12 F/Ws per squad) 1 Devilfish APC 1 Pathfinder squad (8 Pathfinders in total) 3 Broadside Battlesuits OR 3 Hammerhead Gunships OR 3 Skyray Missile Defence Ships OR 1 of each Now I don't have all that and I do know that that's gonna hurt my pocket, but is an army list like that legal?

You have to have a standard crisis team. Only a monat (one man) team, so if you get the 3 XV25 you still need a solo XV8 Elite choice.
Youre also limited to a max of one of each heavy support. So only one hammerhead, one skyray, and one team (up to 3 models) of broadsides. Rest is fine. |

Just to confirm: O'Shovah doesn't limit Sniper Drone teams does he?

O'shovahs breakaway faction simply changes all HS choices to 0-1, and sniper drones are already 0-1 they simply get 3 squads for that one choice.

Here's everything Farsight limits: Stealth, Pathfinder, Hammerhead, Broadside, Sky Ray, and Piranha. All of these you can only take one unit of.

Oh the limits refer to FOC choices rather than actual unit counts! I see now. That means 5th ed actually makes Farsight more playable by forcibly reducing the emphasis on 1 unit in other armies, so going Breakaway doesn't hurt so much relatively. As long as you go hybrid. :P
Due to the limits on Pathfinders, I think we also need to draw more markelight support from other units to make up for the lack of lights compared to other Tau armies. Tentatively, for my Hybrid Farsight, I'd be running 2 Carbine warriors squads (and 2 rifle warriors for FOF w/o markel) with markel + TL on the Ui for grabbing objectives, a Stealth leader with TL + markel and 6 drones for the 3 man team, plus 1 Heavy markel choice Here we come to the toss up between Snipers and Skyrays. I say this because I would have already taken 1 railhead and a 2-man Broadside. Snipers bring more lights, but are static, while the Skyray has only 2 lights, but are mobile and carry 6 seekers that I don't have to slap on the fishes or the limited piranha. Which Heavy would be better for O'Shovah?
