Default Crisis Battlesuit

Hey all. I just got a Battlesuit but don't know what weapons are the best. I'm fighting Orks and Space Marines if that helps. Thanks ;D

Generally speaking people consider the "best" and most versatile configuration for an XV8 to be the famed "Fireknife." This would be a Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod and Multi-tracker. The plasma rifle is capable of dealing with elite troops with high armor saves, the missile pod is capable of dealing with light and medium armored vehicles and the multi-tracker allows you to fire them both to maximize shots. Hope this helps. There's literally dozens of configs you can do on your own. Just get creative.

The most common configs are the Deathrain (twin-linked missile pods and something cheap) and the Fireknife (as Jedibean stated). That may change in the near future, since the Fusion Blaster is getting a few nice little bonuses that it didn't have before.

Tau players usually seem to avoid the Burst Cannon, since Stealthsuits already have it, and the Tau list is not really hurting for S5 Ap5 shots. The flamer is a nice option in limited configurations, but it usually puts you too close to the enemy. I liked using it as a cheap third slot on Deathrains.

Of course, Firestorm configs (Burst Cannon/Missile Pod) can be fun to play with. See a well-written tactica here.

What's changing with the Fusion Blaster, Khanaris?

It now gets +1 on the damage chart, for starters. And it has a better shot than the railgun at striking enemy vehicles without allowing a cover save.

I never understood why you'd put a flamer on a Deathrain suit. I mean, it's like a juxtaposition...

Why not use Target Locks? That way your unit of Deathrains can now shoot different things (if they so choose to.)

I go with a Targeting Array. Nothing is nicer than knowing you will have a BS4 TL Missile Pod. I almost NEVER miss with this config.

What's the deal with Deathrain? Of course, I can see the advantage with the range and firepower, but twin-linked...? Are there really so many transports and light armored vehicles that you need it? Statistically, at BS3, you hit 50% more, but if you got a squad of 3 I would say you get enough hits. Why not put another weapon on it and have a mt, or is it a monat?

I am building an army myself and I was aiming for 2 firesurge and 3 bladestorms (though fireknife seems hot). Any reason why I should have a deathrain?

A squad of three Deathrain suits is also good at taking out enemy bikes. It's high strength ensure you're hitting on 2s and you're getting enough shots to tear through them. Personally I like them.
