The Railgun's role as the "Big Tank Killer" gun has been somewhat lessened with Apocalypse, since now a Hammerhead's damage vs a Superheavy isn't really as good, but they're still the frontline in vanilla 40k and still great options in Apocalypse.

That said, I find it highly unlikely that Games Workshop would see fit to "nerf" the Railgun and the Hammerhead as a whole. It's a very symbolic unit for the Tau, and I would imagine both in terms of fluff and rules, that's what they'll want to keep going. Particularly in Vanilla 40k battles, they will want to keep the Hammerhead in it's current role, and therefor there wont be much room for nerf-ery. Which is a real word. I promise*

Of course, as with anything 5th edition related, that's pure speculation. But I wouldn't be concerned.

*Not a promise.

The ability to easily destroy vehicles is going down across the board, with cover saves for vehicles and all. So, railguns are going down as well, but they're still at the top of the list. It's too bad that AP1 weapons don't ignore cover saves due to their penetrating power.

Yes, but a unit which used to pop tanks quite effectively on its own now needing markerlight support is a weakening in my book.

Hey, if markerlight support is what it takes for our tanks to have the advantage of ignoring said saves (one that I doubt any other army will have), that's fine by me.

Of course IF the RUMORED single vehicle damage chart IS true, then will AP 1 weapons be pointless or will they get something new?

AP1 weapons are supposed to get a +1 to the roll on the vehicle damage chart.
