Default Question on Firewarriors

I do not know where i read or got this idea, but are fire warriors allowed to move 6 inches during their assualt phase w/o moving to combat if they didn't fire? If they can please provide the page in the codex.

Also what's the deal with sweeping advances. I'm still very new and last night i had an entire squad of 11 Fire warriors get taken off the board because I failed a leadership test after losing only one unit on a assualt.

thank y'all,
Tex

Models with jetpacks (Crisis Suits, Stealthsuits, and Drone Squadrons) are allowed to move 6" in the assault phase if they do not charge. But Fire Warriors are just normal infantry, and so they can not.

Sweeping Advances are a pain. That is exactly how they work. If you lose combat, and have models in base-to-base with the enemy, failing a leadership check means you have to rely on your Initiative to get out of close combat. Since Tau are so poor in that area, Fire Warriors usually get killed. One way you can avoid this is to remove any models that are in base-to-base with the enemy as casualties. It means that you won't get to strike back, but it also means that your opponent can not do a Sweeping advance. He just consolidates in this case, while you run away from combat and hopefully rally in time to fire at him.

I will say it was extremely frustrating to only be able to remove one model and then have the rest of units be wiped off the board because of a lousy roll. So in case where he kills like five you're more likely to save the unit, instead of losing one? It blows my mind, but i understand how fragile the warriors are.

Thank you for your help.

Hes talking about the new rule in the 5th edition called fleet. It allows all infentry units the fleet ability.

No he specifically said assault phase and we don't actually know as a fact if that will be in there

At any rate, Fleet of Foot already exists. What is rumored for 5th is a "Run" move. This would give you an extra d6" of movement, but you would not be able to fire weapons or assault.

The RUN rule (d6" instead of shooting) is definately in the book. It will certainly be useful for Firewarriors, but other CC enemies, such as Orks or Assault Marines will be on you in no time!

I would like to know how something that uses a jetpack as it's mode of transportation manages to 'run'.

It is a small consolation that they wont be able to shoot you though, and also kroot could make a good interceptor unit now

I am not sure that made it into the rules. But otherwise, the same way as anything else. The user just focuses on speed at the expense of concentrating on the enemy.
