Default New Tactic (for me any way) against deep strikers

Well, there i was reading somthing in the chaos section about tau and deamons when i thought "Deamons deep striking will be a real problem to my fire warriors, how would i counter that?" then i thought up this

(my images arn't working, so i shall describe it)

Imagine a squad of fire warriors with 2- 4 drones as support.
now, a unit of blood letters deep strikes 6 inches away.
Now itis your turn, you move the drones infront of your squad of warriors, this will provide a line of troops that the deamons Must charge or manouver around for an extra turn. This allows you to either shoot the deamons and lower them down, or (assuming the drones are from an FA slot, peel away and re group.

well?

Why not use kroot as they would have a chance of beating the deamons in combat

I tend to infiltrate my kroot whenever possible, and would definately do it against a daemon army.

I think thats a solid tactic that would work with any deep strikers except maybe termies. However, last game I played I watched a two of my opponents termies fall to a pair of drone from a fish. One fell from fire the other from close combat. I wish I had a camera to take a pic of my buddy's face when that happened.

I'm going to try this against his deep striking multi-melta land speeder son of a bitch that always seems to haunt my heavies.

thanks,

Piet

Surely infiltrating kroot would leave them isolated?

Against a daemon army that deep strikes almost at will, something is going to be isolated. But fast movers and anything j-s-j'ing keep them from getting too lonely out there.

I believe that the problem with "deepstriking deamons" (they are summoned by someone with an icon I believe) is that they can assault the turn they come into play, making all your "screening tactics" worthless. This is with the old codex at least, I'm not sure about the new rules.

For the chaos codex daemons, you are correct. That said, the daemons in the daemon codex cannot assault the turn that they arrive, so there is a turn to set up speed bumps like that and shoot the daemons before they can assault.

I would have to assume he was refering to the Chaos daemons, or else his problem would apply for ALL armies, making no difference whatsoever who it is: Deepstriking 4" from our FireWarrior squads is always a "threat", in that you have to screen them (ignore for at least a turn since they can't assualt your fire line) or blow them away.

From opponents I've faced, at least in the old codex (not sure if they changed it) it was you rolled reserves, if you got it, you could place the demons 6" away from the model with the icon, then you continue as normal. That means the deamons can move 6, then assault their 6, meaning if any chaos marine (with an icon) or squad gets within 18 inches of your firing base (against normal marines you wouldn't really mind, since their effective assault range is 12, and you can rapid fire them next turn) then you have to be aware of a deamon threat.

Screens are a OK solution. They are USEFUL, but not HELPFUL. My point being that its USEFUL to not have your good shooting units assaulted, but not HELPFUL in that assaults are still dangerous. Sweeping advance (d6) + movement (6-12 depending) + assault (6-12 depending) means having an assault anywhere NEAR your firebase is still a threat that has to be considered.

What I was saying actually is applicable to any deep striking unit. But particularly with the new Daemon Army, as they all deep strike anywhere on the table - and what I meant was a crafty Daemon player will be able to deep stike his initial force in such a way that something will be either overwhelmed or cut-off from support. Like a pack of hyenas picking of a weak gazelle.

Their's the Fish of Fury Tactic too which would be useful against deep strikers! This'll be utilised a lot by me seeing as my main 40K opponent is going to be collecting Deamons!!!
