Default Is the Barracuda vtol?

as the header inquires, is the barracuda a vtol craft?
Does it require a runway like conventional aircraft or short take off and landing like the Harrier jump jets.

All their tanks use anti grav tech to hover so its likely the air fleet also has these engines installed. And if they are then its likely all thier air craft can be used in more creative roles.
What is your take on the hover capabilites of Tau air craft.

I'd expect only landing craft would have hover capabilities as I can't see any other Tau flyer needing it as flyers rely on maneuverability

As for barracudas they probably have basic landing gear

I'd guess so. But then again, why does the Orca have those rotating engines if it could just have an anti-grav engine?

And while we're on the subject, I'd like to know something for my fanfiction; does the anti-grav+jets on the Devilfish, Hammerhead etc let them fly or just hover a few meters off the ground? I'd expect that it just lets them hover. But in the Fire Warrior game and some Dawn of War mods, they are seen flying or at least in short jumps. (though they hardly count as canon fluff).

Edit: Here's the clip- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VonES...eature=related are they Devilfish getting fired through the Imperial sheild?

In Fire warrior those are orcas and their swivvelly engins are for a more controlled landing as it means they can make minor adjustments to control their descent

I know devilfish can drop from high altitudes but I'm not sure they can go back up on their own

In my fanfiction, a Devilfish is trying to escape out of a forest. But as they can't 'fly', they have to find an Ork-free road through the forest. So I'm not talking about going into orbit, just flying.

They were basically Devilfish with no engines :P
They couldn't be bothered to designs a decent assault craft,

Tau vehicles have limited flight, not fast though

The orca is a drop ship, originally from the Firewarrior game, then forgeworld made it about 20 times bigger, went from 6 firewarriors to about 24 and 6 suits :P that can fly around pretty fine but is slower than a barracuda,

I imagine the barracuda launching from the ground like a rocket..

Or like the millennium falcon..
I imagine the barracuda just launching gro the ground like a rocket..

Well I first saw the Orca in Dawn of War, when they transport building parts and vehicles into your base.

And seeing that Fire Warrior clip again, it does look like they are engine-less Devilfish that have somekind of disposible thruster on the back.

The Codex says that the devilfish can make short boost jumps, to cross impassable terrain.

The Barracuda's most likely lift off VTOL style (although IRL Harriers don't). Heck, even the Imperium's craft lift off in this way.

I'm pretty sure that IA3 also mentioned that all Tau flyers could go into a 'hover mode', and would count as skimmers.

The anti grav keeps it hovering, but the rotating engines can give it an altitude boost, albeit it not full flight.

Lolwut?

And of course Barracuda take off and land vertically - look at the landing gear, they are mere legs. There would be no way for them to roll down a runway.

Fluff yes, rules not so much.
