Default Broadside with Multi-tracker... is it even useable?

So I've been playing 40k for only about 3 months, but a while ago, while watching some people play, someone pointed out to a Tau player that tried to use his Broadside's Railguns and SMS in the same turn that the Multi-tracker only allows you to fire two battlesuit weapons systems, and neither the Railgun or the SMS is listed under the Battlesuit Weapons Systems list in the Battlesuit Armoury.

Is that really how it's supposed to be?

Thanks.

Theyre special. The railgun and SMS are normally a vehicle weapon, and are described in that section. Nobody other then broadsides can take them, but they are still a suit and get (as per their description) upgrades from the suit list. They do work together, and I dont see why you wouldnt be able to.

Yup, now what is pointless is the fire warrior with a marker light :P

Unless you REALLY want to fire that carbine and marker light at once :P

Well if you had the 3rd edition of Tau, it clearly states that the broadside's railgun is a battlesuit weapons system. And because a broadside has an SMS i too could say that it IS a battlesuit weapons system. Of course you could upgrade it to twin-linked Plasma Rifles and there's no problem, great combo for TEQ hunting.

@Timjim

Well i would fire my rifle and my markerlight from my firewarrior. If you had 2 squads of FW and you markerlighted for eachother, the multi-tracker makes it so that you don't loose that one shot. :P

Hrmm....

Multi-tracker (suit version) "It enables the model to fire two battlesuit weapon systems in the same turn"

... notices railguns/SMS are not under the "battlesuit weapon systems" table

Looks at broadside entry "Must select one battlesuit support system"

Equipment "Each model is equipped with a ... twin-linked railgun & SMS"

I think the kicker is the heading of the armory "all models with battlesuits must take a number of battlesuit weapons and/or support systems, as detailed in their army list entry"

On page 27 it lists the 3 suits, XV-15, XV-8, XV-88.

So RAW says the multitracker doesn't work, but RAW also says that the broadside (which is a battlesuit) must take battlesuit weapon systems/support systems (which the railgun/sms are not listed) in accordance to their unit profile.

I would tell your friend that if someone ever does that again, to claim that by the true wording of the book his battlesuit didn't take any "battlesuit weapon systems" at all, so how can it even fire?

yeah sounds like some rule lawyer at work. I hate those guys. They know full well theyre wrong, they just hope youll fall for their BS and fold.

I want to start a thread on RL and the glorious stories of beating them like a rug that warm all our hearts.

I know I follow rules pretty strict but some are so silly that they have to be read like they were meant :P

Like this one.

That person needs to be dread-socked! The Multi-Tracker is a GREAT piece of gear for broadsides. Plant them in an area you want to deny to the enemy, and don't move them. I have a team like that.

You must realize you are cheating whomever you're playing if you do that.
