Default Devilfish = Steel Coffin? ~> superstition vs probability

I was thinkng, it isn't too hard to shoot down a devilfish even if it has a decoy launcher. Since it is a skimmer, if you manage to immobilize it becomes a firey doom for your FW since skimmers do face plants if they are immobilized when moving 12". Even at 6" it becomes a rock since it isn't allowed to move again. Thoughts?

It can be harder to kill than you might think.* It should never stop moving, and so as long as it has decoy launchers, only a 6 or a 5 or 6 on the reroll can actually bring it down.* Because it should never get a pentrating hit, it also doesn't suffer from the "get out and have a look" syndrome that afflicts Rhinos and Chimeras.

Although what you say is true, but when you compare the DF to all of the other skimmer transports out there, Tau has (to my knowledge) the heaviest of all armor on it...Dark Eldar Skimmers (I forget what they are called) are worse off than we are...being opened topped and all...

But when you really think about it, every tank that is out there is a Steel Coffin: eg. Space Marine Rhino.

The Tau have a pretty decent save too. The poor orks, not only is their truck blown to bits but 8 orks perished as well. So sad.

you must have rolled a lot of 6s...considering that Trukk boyz only get wounded when their trukk gets trashed on a 6. Then again, I'm sure that not all mounted Orks are Trukk Boyz, so I may be wrong on that.

the fish has the armour of a chimera, very decent and the benefits of being a skimmer (it only ever takes glances ) and rerolls 5's

so that leaves 6's that kill and 5's ans 6's on the reroll that kill, good odds to me :P

also, I like the eldars transport (the wave serphent) 12 front and side armor, 10 rear and any weapon with a strength higher then 8 that shoots at it as downgraded to strength 8, not bad, but very expensive for a transport.

Perhaps some math is in order

Each Glancing hit has a 22% chance to destroy a Decoy Launcer equipped Devilfish. A LasCannon hit has a 66% chance of scoring a Glancing hit. A Space Marine has a 66% chance of hitting with a LasCannon. Therefore, each Space Marine toting a LasCannon has a:

.66 x .66 x .22 = 9.6% chance of destroying a Devilfish.

You say it's "not too hard" to shoot down a Devilfish? Huh? Having a greater than 90% chance of surviving a LasCannon seems pretty durable to me! I'll let you do the math for the chance to Destroy a Rhino...

The Tau Devilfsh is the 3nd most durable dedicated troop transport in the game... behind LandRaiders and Wave Serpents. And both of those are a LOT more expensive. I'll take my Devilfish any day of the week.

Game, set, match Tonka, gg. Love how long they are too, makes fish of fury a hell of a lot easier, and id take 4 fish over a land raider any day.
